The Great Neal-Kenerese War

Written by starzomskiwrites

The Conflict

Prelude

Throughout the Thronetaker's War, House Kenereth and House Nealthys would often get into the most brutal and violent disputes, and this abrasive attitude would persist during times of peace after the Great Nations Treaty.
During the initial testing of Sardiorite as a power source within the First Creation Forge, Kenerese saboteurs ambushed the project, damaging and shutting down the Forge and leading to Nealthys imposing tariffs on Kenerese trade and limiting Kenerese immigration. This would not go unnoticed, and Kenereth began to employ similar practices. After a Kenerese diplomat was assassinated on a diplomatic mission to Taria by a Nealthian nationalist, Kenereth decided that enough was enough, and officially declared war on Taria.

Battlefield

The battle was fought in Lanora, within the territories of Kenereth and Nealthys. However, the consequences of the war on the land were felt all throughout Lanora, with many resources also being taken from the territories of Taria and Sharea.

Outcome

  • Established peace treaty between the two nations, involving the forking over of war reparations and territory from Nealthys to Kenereth
  • Nealthian economic depression
  • Nealthian labor deficit, leading to a nationwide food shortage the following year
  • Nealthian political instability
  • Kenerese economic boom due to sudden influx of capital

Aftermath

  • Strained relations between Kenereth and Nealthys
  • Nealthys's technological advancements
  • Kenereth's naval advancement
  • Constant military assembling within the two nations
  • Frequent border conflicts between the two nations
  • Tariffs and trade conflicts between the two nations

Historical Significance

Legacy

The war demonstrated Kenereth as a military powerhouse, leading to them being widely respected and feared by other less powerful nations. It was a brutal war, whose violent methods led to the Treaty of Ethical Warfare Tactics of 565 FI between the nations of Lanora, elaborating on what tactics, treatment and weaponry and are not allowed in warfare between the signatory nations. The danger of the war, and of Kenereth's brutal tactics, forced Nealthys to adapt technologically to even survive as a nation, leading to the finishing of the Creation Forge Project, and the birth of Geloriel's first modern Warforged. Later, this innovation would bring about the airships, firearms, and other innovations based on ancient Giant technology that would characterize Nealthys as a technological powerhouse by the early 650s FI.

Technological Advancement

Much of the Neal-Kenerese War was fought with sword, shield, and the occasional spell here or there. The war spurned on the invention of much of modern siege weaponry, including trebuchets, mangonels, cannons and ballistae. It also led to Nealthys's technological advancements based on technology found in the ruins of the Giant empire found in their borders, leading to the creation of the first modern Warforged, and would spurn on the research and development of Nealthys's other technologies after the war.
Additionally, Anvilwrought Raptors were used during the war as communication between battalions and the homeland, as well as spies on both sides. Tarian nobles also employed the usage of these Raptors to keep tabs on either nation during the conflict.
