As Emperor Lysander the Exalted was dying without a living heir, one of his attendants asked who would inherit his great empire. His response, and last words, was "The strongest of my generals shall lead." This caused a rivalry between his generals in the face of a power vacuum, leading to the declaration of the Thronetaker's War that began the Fifth Age with the Time of Strife, solidified the end of the Brekarian Empire, and leading to the creation of the Empire of Kenereth, the Margraviate of Taria, and the Kingdom of Nealthys.
