Vox

The Lord of Knowledge

Vox, also known as The Lord of Knowledge, is the Geldoran neutral greater deity of bards, inspiration, invention, and knowledge.Vox is the leader of the Deities of Knowledge and Invention and his home plane is the House of Knowledge. His symbol was a blank scroll.   Vox was a member of the adventuring party the Company of the Broken Soliloquy, as he and his companions sought to stop Orcus and Vecna from fulfilling their evil plot their party was corrupted. Vox and Irina tried in vain to save their friends, using their magical powers to prevent the spread of Evil across the land. The Vampire Darvin, broke from the party and began a pilgrimage of death killing thousands. Vox who was the Champion of the Raven Queen, was tasked with stopping Darvin. In the village of Elinador Vox found Darvin and through powerful magic was able to banish him to the Abyss. In gratitude for stopping Darvin from continuing to create undead thralls, The Raven Queen, acedned Vox to Godhood giving him domain over Charm, Knowledge, Luck, Travel, and Bards.
"An idea has no heft but it can move mountains. An idea has no authority but it can dominate people. An idea has no strength but it can push aside empires. Knowledge is the greatest tool of the mortal mind, outweighing anything made by mortal hands. Before anything can exist, the idea must exist.”
— An aphorism and common prayer of Vox's faithful.

Artifacts

Vox's more common form usually carries a special cittern made of white snowwood. This instrument can play any tone or song flawlessly, sound like multiple instruments at once, and perfectly mimic any noise. Any music Vox played from it was capable of emotionally controlling the listener, filling them with enrapturing joy, deep despair, or uncontrollable fury. Depending on the effect utilized, a target unable to resist might be rendered incapable of being hostile or dangerously ferocious. The cittern seems to have other magical powers, but sages can't agree on what they are. Its abilities might change over time, and when loaned to others (Vox is said to sometimes grant it to his faithful when they were performing some important mission for him) its powers could vary from those typically manifested in Vox's own hands.

Tenets of Faith

Knowledge, particularly the raw knowledge of ideas, is supreme. An idea has no weight, but it can move mountains. The greatest gift of humankind, an idea outweighs anything made by mortal hands. Knowledge is power and must be used with care, but hiding it away from others is never a good thing. Stifle no new ideas, no matter how false and crazed they seem; rather, let them be heard and considered. Never slay a singer, nor stand by as others do so. Spread knowledge wherever it is prudent to do so. Curb and deny falsehoods, rumor, and deceitful tales whenever you encounter them. Write or copy lore of great value at least once a year and give it away. Sponsor and teach bards, scribes, and record keepers. Spread truth and knowledge so that all folk know more. Never deliver a message falsely or incompletely. Teach reading and writing to those who ask (if your time permits), and charge no fee for the teaching.

Holidays

Clerics of Vox pray for spells in the morning. Every day, they perform two rituals known as the Cornerstones of the Day, the Binding and the Covenant.    The Binding is a morning service wherein the symbols of Vox are written in the dirt, in ashes upon a stone altar, or in the mind if a clergy member happens to be shackled or otherwise unable to write, while a silent prayer of loyalty and praise is made to Vox.    The Covenant is an evening service during which a passage from some work of wisdom is read aloud or recited from memory, a song or poem is offered up to Vox, and some item of knowledge that the clergy member has learned during that day is spoken aloud to the god and to any fellow clergy present.   In monasteries, temples, and abbeys of the Wise God, the rest of the day is typically occupied by readings aloud from great books of lore, philosophy, and history at gatherings held every two hours or so. It should be noted that almost all temples toVox have their own rituals that vary from one temple to the next and that many have two different sets of rituals: those for the resident clergy and those for laity and visiting clergy.   Midsummer and Shieldmeet are the most sacred days of the Voxnyte calendar since they are occasions when agreements are made or renewed and many contracts, bonds, and the like are drawn up.

Typically his outfit includes a tabard with projecting, ornamented shoulder plates, a cummerbund with an exquisitely beautiful scene painted on its medallion-shaped buckle, and open meshwork, point-toed boots with crystal teardrops dangling from the end of uppers, almost enough to touch the upraised toes. On very rare occasions, Vox appears as a gigantic elderly man entirely cloaked by his long, flowing hair and beard, who flies through the air hurling spells.
