Shadetree
Shadetree is a small frontier town located on the southwestern edge of the Whispwood on the road between Arriset and Moon Hold. It is an unusual community mostly composed of humans and firbolg. The town is roughly 8 days' travel from the capital, King’s Rest. Currently governed by the elected townmaster Harbin Alderhell. Shadetree is mostly a stop off town for travelers along the Nettle trail as well as loggers of the Whispwood trees that dot the landscape around the area. The town has roots dating back many centuries when it was first established by the Kelimnol family. The town is renown for its padded armor and the high quality of the lumber they produces.
Demographics
The population of Shadetree is 50% Human, 25% Firbolg, 25% Other races. The majority of the people are able to provide for themselves, most of the town’s population have enough to live a modest life. and those without are a minority.
Government
Shadetree is run by a mayor who is democratically voted for by the community.
Defences
Shadetree is heavily fortified and surrounded by a heavy stone wall, with several watchtowers built along its length. The gate is double-thickness and reinforced with metal bands and there are additional watchtowers built at various points throughout the surrounding countryside, Shadetree has a town watch that is run by an appointed captain, with one lieutenant, and enough guards, to adequately guard key points in the town with token patrols. There is an Infantry Squad of 10 men with a Sergeant that came to town to return the body of a war hero to his family at the behest of the government.
Industry & Trade
The town has achieved real financial success and attracts a large number of visitors. Shadetree imports Guard Dogs and Oil and exports Lumber and Padded Armor. The market is spacious with room for lots of vendor stalls. Vendor stalls are acquired by bid prior to market day at the town hall. Excess vendors are encouraged to set up stalls outside the town, if they are unable to get a spot in the square. There are maintained areas available for use and provided on a first-come first-served basis. When in use by vendors, this area is regularly patrolled, if law enforcement personnel can be spared.
Infrastructure
The town has had subpar care for some time. The town’s fundamental elements are taken care of to a serviceable degree, though an inequality of attention is noticeable, and some areas seem to take priority over others. It could be that resources are not plentiful enough to cover everything, but those in charge are doing the best they can.
Assets
The town has a group of agricultural farms in the surrounding countryside. The town also exports Lumber and Padded Armor.

The only guild/faction represented in Shadetree is the Guild of Apothecaries and Physicians
Points of interest
Places of Gathering in the town include:
- A sanctuary in a large well-appointed structure where the followers worship the Church of the Sun. Followers are outspoken and have little or no fear of reproach, they may sing or speak to the masses.
- A house of leisure the offerings are limited and/or of bad quality. The location itself is in a state of disrepair and is filthy making your skin crawls as you walk through the shop.
- A bakery there are a fair amount of items, although nothing is extraordinary among them.
- A shipwright the offerings are limited and/or of bad quality. The location itself is in a state of disrepair and is filthy making your skin crawls as you walk through the shop.
- A wainwright shop while it seems disorganized there are a good amount of items.
Tourism
Massive groups of people throng the streets, likely spilling out onto the roads outside town, congestion is an ever-present reality, and a regular issue. Locals seem very unfriendly toward visitors, and would likely make out-of-towners feel unwelcome. This could manifest as coldness, passive-aggressiveness, or even violence.
Architecture
The structures in the town are made up of small houses with thatched roofs. Each structure has a small fenced area to keep a garden or livestock.
Geography
The forest is one of the few remnants of the vast primordial forests which covered most of the continent in the last age.
