Rathkarta

Rathkarta is a moderately sized city, with enough structures to support around 35,000 people. The city was originally founded by the Yohirin that had initially set up a base camp on this site. As time went on more and more permanent structures were built and eventually the city was established. Rathkarta is known for its military academy and its ancient Baobab tree, that legend says was the home of the First Tabaxi clan, the Storm Tribe. The city's construction is mostly of brick and stucco, with stone streets. Most of the Bridges are made of wood however you will find some stone bridges as well. Rathkarta is extremely fortified, it is surrounded by an imposing stucco covered stone wall, with many fully-staffed watchtowers at regular intervals along its length. The gate is double-thickness, reinforced with metal bands, augmented with a portcullis, and is always manned. A supplementary timber palisade encompasses the surrounding countryside, with its own watchtowers. Nothing goes in or out without the watch’s knowledge or permission, The city has an extensive city watch run by a captain with several sergeants with all key points thoroughly guarded. The city's perimeter is patrolled constantly. Rathkarta is slow at night, almost everything is closed except for taverns, which may be open until early morning, and inns, which stay open perpetually. The city gate is closed at night, but guards will generally be ready to open it, as needed. Throughout the city you find multiple open air shops and structures. Rathkarta's Lord Warden prides himself on his intelligence and wisdom. He typically make choices that preserve the society and reinforce the community’s access to knowledge and culture. The city has an extensive scholar district to promote this mindset among the citizenry.

The population of Rathkarta is 40% Tabaxi and 30% Dragonborn, 20% Tiefling, and 10% other races. With a Population of 34917 denizens there is a moderate amount of people for a city this size. Walking through the streets you will see plenty of people but never so many that it would feel cramped. Just under half the city’s population lives outside the city proper in the surrounding areas. The people of Rathkarta are wealthy, nearly everyone has what they need to live comfortably, many are able to live well, and some are very prosperous.

Rathkarta is governed by a Tabaxi Lord Warden who is appointed on hereditary rule, the Lord Warden must be a elder member of the Storm Tribe.

The majority of the structures in the city are built of red hued stucco covered rocks. There are multiple oval towers and structures with corbelled arches. The majority of the rooftops are covered in wooden shingles. It's common for the governmental buildings and nobles' homes to have beautiful frescoes painted on the walls and square support piers with intricate carvings. Throughout the city you will find beautiful fountains with ornate statues. As you walk through the streets you are impressed with the city's condition. The roads are well maintained, there are no obvious unpleasant odors that you would expect in a city of this size. While some of the buildings seem slightly worn, overall you can see that the denizens take pride in their homes. The city has sewers with a network of drains, pipes, and trenches that lie beneath the surface.

Geography

Rathkarta sits in the Great Savanna nestled up along the Cragspire mountasins.  The outskirts of the city are tall grasslands due to the higher rainfall along the mountains and rich soils of this area.
