Kazak Depths

Kazak Depths is a dwarven city beneath Wildhorn Peak in the Cragspire Mountains, It is the second largest dwarven stronghold in all of Midvar. The city's construction is directly into the mountain itself, with intricately carved stone streets. There are massive chasms throughout Kazak Depths that are spanned by massive stone bridges. Originally a Goldmine mine belonging to Clan Battleborn, this underground city is a safe haven for dwarves, gnomes and goliaths and even some persons of other races. The Gilded Hall had a long history of tragedy and triumph, and was the making and breaking of countless individuals. Kazak Depths is governed by Lord Warden Radek Firstblade is a descendant of Óri Battleborn. The mines of Kazak Depths are renowned for their deep veins of Silver, Platinum and Mithril.

Demographics

The population of Kazak Depths is 90% Dwarven with 10% being of other races. With a Population of 73,406 denizens there are a large number of people living here. There are few if any vacant buildings. In high Traffic areas such as the Great Hall one generally has elbow room, but not much more. About a third of the city’s population lives outside the city proper in the surrounding areas. The people of Kazak Depths are prosperous, the majority have enough to live a good life and, of them, a fair amount can even live comfortably.

Kazak Depths is governed by hereditary, Lord Warden Radek Firstblade is a descendant of Óri Battleborn.

Defences

Kazak Depths is heavily fortified and surrounded by a heavy Stone wall at the entrance, an unimaginable bridge spans the expansive gorge from the king's road to the gate of the city. Along the bridge are several watchtowers evenly spread out along its length. The gate is double-thickness and reinforced with metal bands and there are additional watchtowers built at various points throughout the surrounding countryside. The city has a robust city watch run by Captain Billingr Elkhid, and two sergeants. The City Watch is able to place extra support at key points, as well as establish three or four patrols a day. There is an Infantry Company of 150 with 50 Archers. who are garrisoned in the city The military is staying in some moderate structures outside of the city. This encompasses barracks for the troops, and separate structures for officers. Training grounds are equipped with light walls.

Kazak Depths exports Pottery, Platinum, Marble, Mithril, Scale Mail Armor, and Silver. The chief imports of Kazak Depths are Lead, Goats, Cinnamon, Horses, Canvas, Fish. The market square in Kazak Depths is ample and has room for a fair number of vendor stalls. Vendor stalls are acquired on a first-come first-served basis. Merchants line up prior to market day and those at the front of the line are given the spaces. No fees are charged to have a stall. Excess vendors are encouraged to set up stalls outside the city, if they are unable to get a spot in the square. There are maintained areas available for use and provided on a first-come first-served basis. When in use by vendors, this area is regularly patrolled, if law enforcement personnel can be spared.

There are generally a fair amount of visitors on the streets of At times the City Watch has difficulty managing the congestion as huge groups of people always seem to be visiting Locals are outwardly hostile and seem very unfriendly toward visitors, and would likely make out-of-cityers feel unwelcome.

Architecture

The majority of the structures in the city are built of white washed marble blocks. There are multiple round towers and structures with round arches. The majority of the rooftops are covered in flagstone tiles. It's common for the governmental buildings and nobles' homes to have ornate wall hangings and squared support piers with intricate carvings. Throughout the city you will find beautiful grand halls. The condition of the city is impressive, it is well taken care of and cleanliness is clearly a priority. As you journey through the streets you see that the structures are maintained, though signs of wear may still be apparent. It feels lived-in, but of a respectable quality in every regard. The city has sewers with a network of drains, pipes, and trenches that lie beneath the surface.

Geography

Built into the side of the Cragspire Mountains the rock of the mountain keeps the city at a constant temperature year round. In all of the common areas the ceilings are massively tall in some areas over 200 feet tall. Large metal brazers light the entire city constantly.
