Brithombar

Brithombar, also known as the 'Seat of the Glittering Hills' is a large frontier town with over 1500 buildings, that are built into the hills along the bank of the Crystal River. Founded nearly seven centuries ago by a halfling caravan that was the first to see veins of electrium sparkling in the rocky hills. The Halflings contracted several dwarven clans to help them mine the area, and over time this small mining camp has grown into the large town it is today. Recently the town has come under come under the control of Erril Havish, a former commander within Obsidian Legion, who has taken power from the Gnomish Council of Elders.

Demographics

The population of Brithombar is 50% Halfling, 25% Dwarf, 15% Human, and 10% are a mix of other races. the majority of the people are impoverished, around half of the town struggles to carve out even a meager existence.

Government

Brithombar is under military rule where the town is controlled by an ex-leader of a the Obsidian Legion.

Defences

Brithombar is extremely fortified, it is surrounded by an imposing timber palisade, with many fully-staffed watchtowers at regular intervals along its length. The gate is double-thickness, reinforced with metal bands, augmented with a portcullis, and is always manned. A supplementary timber palisade or stone encompasses the surrounding countryside, with its own watchtowers. Nothing goes in or out without the watch’s knowledge or permission,Brithombar has a small town watch that is run by a nominated captain, and employs a small number of guards. Presence of the town watch may be scattered, or lacking, at times. There is no military presence within the town.

Industry & Trade

The town is functional and generates a modest to good amount of coin. Brithombar imports Clove, Ducks, and Diamonds and exports Pepper, Inks, and Electrum. The market is ample and has room for a fair number of vendor stalls. Vendor stalls are acquired by bid prior to market day at the town hall. Excess vendors are allowed to set up stalls and the town watch patrols through regularly but the areas themselves are less-maintained and traffic is lighter.

Infrastructure

The town has received adequate care where the fundamental elements are all taken care of relatively competently, but some room for improvement still exists. Lack of money, or involvement in more pressing matters such as external conflicts or disaster management, are possible explanations.

Assets

The town has a group of agricultural and livestock farms as well as an electrum mine in the surrounding countryside. The town exports Pepper, Inks, and Electrum.

Tourism

The town is generally bustling with people, the streets and shops often congestion is significantly increased. Locals are standoffish, or perhaps hard on the outside, but can be friendly if you get to know them.

The town is made of timber-framed with wattle and daub wall townhouses along with a few stone buildings where the more wealthy residents live.

Geography

The land is U-shaped with and steep and sometimes even vertical sides. Throughout the valley floor is a boulder-laden with a slow flowing river.
