Arriset

Arriset is a large city that stands astride the Poltava River, and is renowned for the numerous bridges that traverse these canal zone. Many of these bridges were designed by the Imperial Engineers School located in the city itself. The riverport can take some fairly large river boats that come up from Dagger Bay, however if the merchants want to continue shipping their goods upriver must transfer them to Tortle operated river barges, and thus pay relevant taxes and duties to the city.The city also boasts the famous Imperial Zoo, which houses all manner of large and fearsome monsters, some of which are trained and harnessed as beasts of war. These creatures have been captured from every corner of the Kingdom, as well as a few more curious specimens from the Barren Wastes. The City is home to a larger halfing community then one would expect to find in any proper city and they hold one of the seats on the City Council as they control the Grocers Guild. The other 4 Council seats are run by the 4 other largest guilds in the city.

Demographics

The population of Arriset is 60% human and 40% other races. With a Population of 60652 denizens there is a moderate amount of people for a city this size. Walking through the streets you will see plenty of people but never so many that it would feel cramped. About a tenth of the city’s population lives outside the city proper in the surrounding areas. The people of Arriset are able to provide for themselves, most of the city’s population have enough to live a modest life. and those without are a minority.

Government

Arriset is governed by an elected council of 5 prominent members of the community who were chosen to lead the city collectively from the City Hall.

Defences

Arriset is lightly fortified with bare-bones fortifications that are a minimal obstacle for enemy forces, but are adequate to deter wild animals. There is a simple gate that can be barred in the evenings that sits astride the main road. Arriset has a city watch run by captain Nicholas Cheator, the watch has sufficient strength to cover key points, as well establish a patrol once or twice a day. There is an Infantry Company of 150 with 50 Archers. who stopped in city as they are returning from the front lines. The military is staying in some moderate structures outside of the city. This encompasses barracks for the troops, and separate structures for officers. Training grounds are equipped yards with light walls.

Arriset exports Mithral Armor, Furs, Textiles or Clothing, Beer, Silk, Lead. The chief imports of Arriset are Copper Ore, Mithral, Pottery, Peat, Clay, Ivory.  The market square in Arriset is tight and it only has room for a few key vendor stalls. Vendor stalls are acquired on a first-come first-served basis. Merchants line up prior to market day and those at the front of the line are given the spaces. No fees are charged to have a stall. Excess vendors are not allowed to set up stalls outside the city and the city watch will enforce this.

Infrastructure

Arriset has received adequate care, the city’s fundamental elements are all taken care of relatively competently, but some room for improvement still exists. Lack of money, or involvement in more pressing matters such as external conflicts or disaster management, are possible explanations.

The majority of the structures in the city are built of bright colored wood walls on stone foundations. There are multiple tall spires and structures adorned with multifoil arches. The majority of the rooftops are covered in slate tiles. It's common for the governmental buildings and nobles' homes to have geometric designs inlaid on the walls and intricate columns. Throughout the city you will find beautiful fountains with ornate statues. As time goes by you notice that the condition of the city is dilapidated, things are dirty and in a widespread state of disrepair, though some token effort may have been made at cleanliness. Streets are packed dirt or broken stone. They may be uneven, rutted or muddy. Structures have likely received similar low levels of care, though there could be some disparity. The city has sewers with a network of drains, pipes, and trenches that lie beneath the surface.

Arriset is set among the grasslands with primarily forbs like wildflowers instead of grasses, sedges, and rushes, in regions with moderate rainfall, drainage, and soil.
