Al' Dawan

Al' Dawan is large with almost 1500 structures, The structures in the town are made of timber and plaster walls on top of stone foundations. The homes are rectangular, with a gable end or wing facing onto the street. On the ground floor the front part of the property is used as a shop or for some other trade purposes. Behind this was the hall or main living area, extending through two stories. Further back was often the counting house or office, and perhaps stores and warehouses, with additional living accommodation on an upper floor above some or all of these rooms. Al' Dawan is heavily fortified and surrounded by a heavy timber palisade, with several watchtowers built along its length. The gate is double-thickness and reinforced with metal bands and there are additional watchtowers built at various points throughout the surrounding countryside, The town was established by travelers who would stop and rest here along their journey. The number of people on the street and working in the fields is what you would expect from a town this size. About a tenth of the town’s population lives outside the town proper.

The population of Al' Dawan is 50% Tiefling, 25% Half-Orc, 15% Dragonborn, and 10% are a mix of other races. the majority of the people are able to provide for themselves, most of the town’s population have enough to live a modest life. and those without are a minority.

Al' Dawan is heavily fortified and surrounded by a heavy timber palisade, with several watchtowers built along its length. The gate is double-thickness and reinforced with metal bands and there are additional watchtowers built at various points throughout the surrounding countryside, Al' Dawan has a town watch that is run by an appointed captain, with one lieutenant, and enough guards, to adequately guard key points in the town with token patrols. There is an Infantry Squad of 10 men with a Sergeant that came to the area because of reports of raiders.

Industry & Trade

The town has achieved real financial success and attracts a large number of visitors. Al' Dawan imports Furniture, Pepper, and Cotton and exports Silver, Pigs, Electrum. The market is spacious with room for lots of vendor stalls. Vendor stalls are acquired on a first-come first-served basis. Merchants line up prior to market day and those at the front of the line are given first pick of the available stall spaces, provided they can pay the fee for the day. Excess vendors are allowed to set up stalls and the town Watch patrols through regularly but the areas themselves are less-maintained and traffic is lighter.

The town has had subpar care for some time. The town’s fundamental elements are taken care of to a serviceable degree, though an inequality of attention is noticeable, and some areas seem to take priority over others. It could be that resources are not plentiful enough to cover everything, but those in charge are doing the best they can.
