The Forlorn Islands

The Forlorn Islands are a group of volcanic islands on the south coast of the continent of Chronan. There was an ancient culture of sea elves called Nyiss Velathyyr that once inhabited the islands, but it was swept away by the meteor strike thousands of years ago, and now only phantom forces remain. Venturing into the islands is strictly adviced against, for those that have returned from there alive have brought with them dark curses and misfortune. Sailors' stories tell of mutated sea monsters, swimming hordes of undead and a vily sea hag all luring seafarers to their deaths.
At the bottom of Mare Crystallum, south of the islands, lies a network of underwater cities known as the United Merdomes, where the surviving sea elves fled to after the devastation of Nyiss Velathyyr. Many of them still dream of reclaiming their ancestral islands from the curse that holds them.
