Half-orc Subspecies

The common half-orc represents offspring of an orc and a human (or two such half-orcs). In the world of Chronan, orcs are able to breed with elves and dwarves as well, creating three distinct subspecies. In the scriptures of The Order, this is due to orcs being mutations of humans, elves and dwarves.

Common Half-Orc Features

  • Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score increases by 2, and your Constitution score increases by 1. Alternatively, you can increase one of your scores by 2, and another score by 1.
  • Age. Half-orcs mature faster than individuals of their non-orc heritage.
  • Size. Half-orcs are somewhat larger and bulkier than their human, elven or dwarven parent, and they range from 5 to well over 7 feet tall. Your size is Medium.
  • Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
  • Darkvision. Thanks to your orc blood, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
  • Relentless Endurance. When you are reduced to 0 hit points but not killed outright, you can drop to 1 hit point instead. You can't use this feature again until you finish a long rest.
  • Subspecies. Depending on your heritage, you can choose to be a human-orc, a dwarf-orc or an elf-orc.
  • Human-Orc Features

The tallest and most brutal-looking of the half-orcs, human-orc offspring usually have greyish pink or ochre skin, jutting jaws and prominent tusk teeth. In the cities of Chronan, they are often called with slurs like "pig-people".
  • Menacing. You have proficiency in the Intimidation skill.
  • Savage Attacks. When you score a critical hit with a melee weapon attack, you can roll one of the weapon's damage dice one additional time and add it to the extra damage of the critical hit.
  • Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and Orcish.
  • Dwarf-Orc Features

The rarest of the three subspecies, dwarf-orcs are shorter but stockier than the other half-orcs, having inherited their dwarven parent's toughness. They are very hairy and have coarse, brown-green skin, and their large tusks jut out of the corner of their mouths. This has resulted in the derogatory monicker of golthar, meaning "boar clan".
  • Thick Skin. You always have +1 bonus to your Armor Class, due to your thick, furry skin.
  • Dwarven Resilience. You have advantage on saving throws against poison, and you have resistance against poison damage.
  • Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common, Dwarvish and Orcish.
  • Elf-Orc Features

Offspring of elves and orcs are lean and lithe in comparison to others of their kind, with deep green skin and less-prominent teeth. Their hair comes in the vivid colors of their elven heritage. Elf-orcs are known for their uncanny bravery in the face of danger. In Elvish, they are known as ur'laiquen, "green folk of orcish descent".
  • Keen Senses. You have proficiency in the Perception skill.
  • Superior Darkvision. Your darkvision has a radius of 120 feet.
  • Mind's Fortitude. You have advantage against being charmed or frightened, and magic can't put you to sleep.
  • Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common, Elvish and Orcish.
