College of Dance Bard

The high society of Chronan enjoys all forms of entertainment, but the noblest of them all is considered to be dancing. Learning the intricace ballroom dances are a must to anyone who wants to be anything among the upper crust social gatherings. The theater-temples of Manadis fill up whenever there is a famed dancer performing. In Geigerport, there is even a bardic college that teaches how to apply the artform into combat scenarios, using fans, swords and chakrams for a dance that is both inspirational and deadly.

College of Dance Features

This subclass is open to bards that have studied in the Bardic College of the Graces in Geigerport, which is one of the three great bardic institutes in Chronan.
  • 3rd level: Dance Training (replaces Expertise), Somatic Casting, Dance of Inspiration
  • 6th level: Battle Dancer
  • 14th level: Dance of Debilitation
  • Dance Training

(Replaces Expertise) When you choose this subclass at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with boomerangs, chakrams (see Steampunk Weapons, Armor & Common Items) and scimitars. You also gain proficiency in Acrobatics and Performance, if you do not already have them. If you already have proficiency in either, you gain expertise in them, doubling your proficiency bonus when you use the skill.

    Somatic Casting

Starting at 3rd level, you are able to cast magic using only the movements of your body. You may choose to replace any verbal or material components of a spell with only the somatic component of dancing, with the exception of material components that have a cost. As such, you do not need to hold a spellcasting focus to cast spells as long as your speed is not 0.

    Dance of Inspiration

Also at 3rd level, you learn how to extend your bardic inspiration through dancing, provided you aren't wearing medium or heavy armor, or using a shield. As a bonus action, you can expend one use of Bardic Inspiration to start a dance that affects one creature within 15 ft. That creature can roll a Bardic Inspiration die and add the result to any ability check, attack roll or saving throw it makes once per round. The creature can roll the die again after the start of your turn each round without losing it as long as you keep dancing within 15 ft. of the creature. You must concentrate to keep on dancing, as if concentrating on a spell.   The dance lasts for up to 10 minutes and ends early if you or the creature you are inspiring move out of range of each other, you lose concentration, start concentrating on a spell, are incapacitated, or don a medium or heavy armor or a shield. You can also choose to end the dance at any time (no action required). If you want to inspire another target, you must expend another use of your Bardic Inspiration feature.

    Battle Dancer

At 6th level, you learn how to use your inspirational dancing more effectively during combat. When you use your Dance of Inspiration feature, you gain the additional benefits:
  • You gain bonus to your AC equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of +1).
  • Your speed increases by 10 ft.
  • You gain advantage to Dexterity saving throws.
  • You can attack twice, instead of once, when you take the Attack action.
  • If the creature you are inspiring moves away from the range of your dance, you can use your reaction to move towards it up to your speed. If the target is back in range after this reaction, the effect of the dance continues uninterrupted.
  • You lose these benefits when your dance ends.

    Dance of Debilitation

At 14th level, you can use your dancing to debilitate a foe instead of inspiring an ally, provided you aren't wearing medium or heavy armor, or using a shield. As a bonus action, you can expend one use of Bardic Inspiration to start a dance where once per round, you roll a Bardic Inspiration Die and subtract the result from one ability check, attack roll or saving throw that any creature makes within 15 ft. of you. You can roll the die again each round without expending uses of Bardic Inspiration as long as you are dancing. You must concentrate on this dance as if you are concentrating on a spell, and you enjoy all the benefits of your Battle Dancer feature while you do.   The dance lasts for up to 10 minutes and ends early if you lose concentration, start concentrating on a spell, are incapacitated, or don a medium or heavy armor or a shield. You can also choose to end the dance at any time (no action required).
