Geological / environmental event

The current inhabitants of the Island do not have enough scientific and geological knowledge to understand exactly what happened during the Foaba. This is the myth that has grown out of a need to understand this world-changing event:
The Molting of Tazhanakwa.

A cataclysmic natural disaster that completely changed the world. Because of the severity of destruction, humanity was left in shambles, scattered across the Island and barely clinging to sanity and life. It has been almost 2,000 years since the Foaba, and it has taken the inhabitants of the Island this long to achieve even a semblance of the sophistication and understanding of The Muka, their long-dead and nearly forgotten ancestors.   The current calendar measures time in years since the Foaba.

The Muka splintered. Scattered. Fled. Finally gathered into small groups - terrified and broken. Knowledge, research, documents, architecture, culture, magic destroyed. So much lost. In shock and fear, regression into primitive culture. Humanity forgotten, only now beginning to crawl out of the darkness and back into the light of Sua. Only now feeling, once again, the Breath of Ayuna moving.
