The Great Tournament

Sporting Event / Competition

68fa

Not a competition of physical prowess and military skill, this was a call for the rediscovery and reclamation of culture - art, language, craftsmanship, music, and more.

In the year 65fa, Kyn Rämwar, reigning as the first King of Bramin, issued an invitation:

In three years' time, a Great Tournament shall be held in the new capital city of Kynslin. All citizens of The Kingdom of Bramin are invited to attend and compete for the King's favor. Revelries and sport shall extend for nine days - an entire week of entertainment sponsored by the great Kyn Rämwar.

The official events of the Tournament were:
  1. creation of a new, national language (easy and pleasing to the King's ear)
  2. design of a palace for the new King
  3. creation of a bold (and beautiful) statue of the new King
  4. design of a new, national monetary system (with coins featuring the likeness of the new King)
  5. writing of the mythic and brave story of the founding of Bramin (starring the King)
  6. composition of music to accompany the telling of said story
  7. and finally, a beauty pageant to aid the King in choosing a royal bride
There were (a few) aspects of the Tournament that didn't focus on the new King, such as fishing competitions and farmers' showcases, concerts and good-natured sporting contests, displays of art and craftsmanship. Overall, it was an opportunity for the people of Bramin to come together and celebrate, to find hope that the world was moving forward rather than dying, and to remember the talents and skills they possessed beyond the basic survival instincts that they had become resigned to rely on.
