Anyma Sim

Säa Anyma Sim

It's strange, but I almost feel as though I belong here, in the dry heat and scorching sun of the Yonhu. The mysterious stoicism and quiet fatalism which are a part of all inhabitants of Tayon Ke has embraced me in its cold grasp, a pleasant contrast to the fire of the desert sun, and I imagine myself living on the edge of the desert, in the shadow of the great mountains, waiting for the day when I, too, will be called back into those mountains to die.   And yet, I can remember a very similar feeling when I was living among the tribes roaming the great sweetgrass sea, surrounded by the smell of earth, plant, and animal, covered by the vast expanse of an endless sky. My spirit soared, unloosed from its petty bounds, and my horse and I flew across those plains as if we were one of the brilliant Feonix of myth and legend.   And yet again, if you were to ask me where is my home, I would answer, without thought, the forest, the great breathing wilderness that is dark and damp and close in ways the desert nor plains will ever be. I would say that it is the rustling of the leaves that soothes me, the sight of mushroom and berry that excites me, the smell of fecund decay, of life and death happening in every moment in every place, the smell of Ayuna Itself that dwells within that cathedral of trees, that fills my heart.   But of course, I am Bramin, born and bred, and thus always shall be a child of the mundanity of the farm and the miracle of the sea - and forever these two will shape me, the smell of salt in the air and the feel of fresh soil in the hand. I do not despair of the place in which Ayuna planted me, but I do offer sincere gratitude for the blessing I have been given to live, for a little while, as if I was sand, tree, and sky.

Personal history

Anyma Sim was born on a small farm outside the village of Imwa, on the southern edge of Manoro Binso.  Imwa has long since been absorbed into the bigger town of Maforlin, but at the time of Sim's birth it was one of dozens of small villages that lined the coast of the bay.   Like many of the families that lived in that area, Anyma's father was a fisherman and her mother tended the small farm, and their combined harvest of fish and fruit provided the family with a secure income and comfortable home.    Anyma was an only child until the age of 9, and up until that point, when not in school, she would spend equal amounts of time on the sea and the farm.  A curious and observant child, she noticed and remembered details, sometimes astonishing her parents with her memory and storytelling ability.   When Anyma's sister, Ilsa, was born, life changed as Anyma was relied upon to help more around the farm and to care for the baby.  By the time she turned 13, it was clear to her parents that she was struggling with the lack of intellectual stimulation offered by the local school and life on the farm.  That year, they made the decision to send her to The Academy in Kynslin, a preparatory school for The Conservatory.  Though it meant leaving the only life she had ever known, Anyma was eager to go and she thrived in the company of students and scholars.

Sexuality

Anyma was very discreet about her private life, however, it is rumored that she had a deeply intimate relationship with a woman from one of the Tribes while living with the Gueta Ko.

Education

Trained and employed by The Conservatory, she began her education there at age 17 after completing four years of study at The Academy.  She graduated with her Säa degree at age 24 - a young age to become a senior scholar.

Employment

Upon graduation from The Conservatory, Anyma was immediately hired by The Conservatory's Department of History to do research.   While the official purpose of her travels among The Gueta Ko and Tayon Ke was to record their histories, Anyma was much more interested in the people themselves and how they lived their lives.  Near the end of her life, she helped create the Department of Anthropology at The Conservatory.

Social

Religious Views

From her writing, it is obvious that Anyma was a deeply spiritual person.  Her references to Ayuna abound, and while Bramin had no official religion, there was enough of the old ways lingering in the countryside that she certainly could have been exposed to them while growing up.  Of course, this exposure would have only deepened as she traveled and researched the religions of the Island's peoples.

Who Was She?
A well-known and respected anthropologist - one of the first to travel through all of Bramin, Tayon Ke, and the land of the Gueta Ko studying their human populations. Her most referenced work is The Island and Its Inhabitants, written in 534fa after almost two decades of study. Her writing, though scientific in nature, is known to be deeply spiritual and poetic.
