A coalition of polis, angered by Vhessan Empire for closing in on Mekharian Strait, declared war against it.
Mekharian Strait was a strategic asset to Hellana, since it allowed communication and trade with those Hellans that decided to settle on coasts of Black Sea.
That's why Hellana reacted very negatively to Vhessan attempt to get too close to it, with a coalition of polis soon declaring war on expanding Empire to cut it down to size.
Surprisingly for Vhessan Empire its forces suffered several devastating defeats at hands of hellanan phalanx, with human heavy infantry remaining practically undefeated as long as it had time to properly set up. Few succesful sieges and victories due to overwhelming numerical advantage managed to preserve imperial pride, but the war as a whole made Vhessan Empire turn its attention somewhere else.
