Some of the eastern elven states remained opponents of Elven Empire, which lead to open warfare between proimperial and anti-imperial forces.
While most - if not all - eastern elven states were extremely hostile towards Lanoirenn, this didn't mean they were supporters of Elven Empire.
With local Lanoirenn influence broken, the whole region was broken into two opposing factions, one that wished for elven unification and one that remained supporter of traditional Confederation, despite its internal weakness.
While due to Vhessan Empire support for proimperial faction the result was more or less guaranteed from the start, it still caused a shift in focus during the war, causing temporary stalemate between Elven Empire and Lanoirenn-Alvaena alliance, as their forces were redirected for the eastern theatre of Fourty Years War.
