In the middle of his war against Hellanan tribes, Mersimar is murdered.
What exactly happened in elven war camp in northwestern Hellana remains a secret.
Noone knows who exactly killed Mersimar. Elves accuse local humans that wanted to stop elven reconquest, humans accuse elves that were tired of Mersimar neverending war.
However it was, the effect was Mersimar death and partial collapse of Elven Empire. While it was no longer militant magocracy but instead a hereditary monarchy, emperor Mallifiar had much smaller authority, with many sorcerer-kings opposing him completely.
