Prior to the creation of Imperium of Karadia the dominating magical system in Karadia was Old Magic in its various types. With magicians divided equally strongly... and in big part independent from social hierarchy.
The creation of Circle of Stars marked the beginning of Modern Magic in Karadia, and the begin of general crumbling of Old Magic and old forms of magical education. With new magicians expected to be subservient to social and political hierarchy, this managed to 'buy' the Imperium many supporters, especially in Frankia.
