Rage Character in Gates of Eternity | World Anvil

Rage

Imperial God, Brass God, Grand Slaughterer.

Rage is a god from imperial Black Pantheon, worshipped as divine patron of blood, war, anger, conquest and slaughter. While not a part of first league of gods (Pandaemonium, Deviation, Hedonism, Shadow and Tyrant) he is considered one of the strongest secondary power in a neverending civil war of Gehenna. He rules over Fields of Blood, a place that serves as an afterlife for his worshippers, from his mobile temple of Bloodthrone.

Fields of Blood

Fields of Blood are described as an neverending plains with blood raining from the skies and filling rivers and lakes. It is inhabited, but considering the ammount of beasts that roam them (and their ferocity and strenght) living here is a state of constant fighting. Inhabitants - the Dead and sentient servile daemons of Rage - live in small villages and towns, in most cases surrounding an arena, where those living there fight constantly for the title of the strongest, which gives them a de facto right to rule the town and its inhabitants.   Thus it is a place of constant, neverending struggle. Every ruler soon finds himself facing a neverending line of pretenders, that will battle them until their eventual demise... only for the victor to replace the vanquished, and the vanquished soon resurrecting to fight for the 'throne' once again. But this isn't the only constant battlefield in the Fields of Blood - the strongest of inhabitants sooner or later depart to the Bloodthrone, hoping to prove themselves in front of their god, to gain even more strenght and glory on arenas within.   This is a place where those who enjoyed spilling blood and fighting to the brink end up after death. Those that were rewarded with eternity of fighting. With some of them soon founding opponents so satysfying that their duel lasts for eternity, other inhabitants sometimes passing by Dead combating each other forever, every wound soon healing and all tricks and feints used and forgotten without end.

Servants

During the Great Game - fought in Dark and Light - Rage commands a vast armies of the Dead and his own servile daemons alike. Most notable of them are:   Skinner - Far descendants of Rage himself, manifesting in a form of a tall and muscular men wearing skins they personally ripped off their enemies in a pretty rough manner and then stitched together equally rough, with bleed dripping from stitches. Upon their heads are a skull helmets made from skulls of big animals or beasts. They are a vanguard troopers, often completely berserk, ripping through enemy formations to rape, murder and pillage whatever and whenever they can.   Brass Slaughterer - Massive warmachines used to pull the Bloodthrone and, sometimes as heaviest possible stormtroopers. In real world - if someone was mad and powerful enough to summon them - capable of obliterating armies. Even ten meters high brass giants, covered in hooks and spikes decorated with most gruesome trophies, surrounded by aura that makes allies go berserk even deeper and instill fear in their enemies, wielding massive warhammers capable of causing small earthquakes due to their sheer strenght.   Bloodfield Chaos Sorcerer - Sorcerer of Accursed Legions from Fields of Blood. Remnants of insane magicians that loved spreading chaos and destruction with their powers. Now, clad in brass shackles and with their heads hidden beneath cloth bags, they walk around, blindly and in berserker fury, casting destructive spells with their neverending magic power, forever indulging in their beloved hobby.

Divine Domains

War, Conquest, Slaughter and Blood.

Holy Books & Codes

Variety of legends and books, that were never properly unified. Many of them slightly vary between regions in Imperium.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

Crossed axes.

Tenets of Faith

Getting stronger, fighting, and generally not being a pacifist. Training yourself but without participating in warfare is more or less ok, but only real fighting (and improving through that) is the best thing to gain approval of Rage. Especially if it this connected with the want to become the strongest warrior around.

Physical Description

Facial Features

He tends to manifest in two different forms. One, older one, has him as a barbarian-like warrior, with unkept hair and fiery red eyes. Second, younger one and probably created since the Karadia run out of barbarians, is a young (20-30 years) man with impressive musculature with - still - his trademark fiery red eyes, but with his beard trimmed.

Identifying Characteristics

Beside eyes - sometimes quite literally 'fiery', especially he when wants to show his displeasure - he quite often wears dragonskull helmet with his symbol - two crossed axes - carved at the front.

Special abilities

Just as all gods, Rage is omnipotent and omniscient, his power over reality limited only by influences of other beings similar to him. He is more than capable of forging completely new reality with but a friction of power - afterall Fields of Blood is practically a world, as 'real' for its inhabitants as 'real' world is for mortals.   As any god Rage isn't limited to 'today', as there is no 'today' for gods. They exist simultaneously in every 'now' of every 'today' from the moment the world is created to the moment of its eventual demise. The only reason they limit themselves to human concept of time is to interact with them without being too 'alien' for them.   Rage is also capable of creating literally unlimited numbers of daemons - not to mention as many types of them as he wishes. He could also create as many species in real life, but settled after creating only orks.

Personal history

Rage was born when Shadow ripped a part of a soul from Tyrant's body following succesfull revolt against his rule that split Gehenna into state of perpetual civil war. She then added some of her own flesh to create a new god, that in a way was a children of this two gods, similar to them mostly in his mind.   Soon after his birth he departed and began travelling around the Gehenna, seeking to find strong opponents to satiate his... thirst. But it didn't matter who he faced, he always emerged triumphant, defeating even other gods - even Deviation whose temptations he resisted, and Tyrant that was still weakened after the revolt. He even carved a bloody path through Pandaemonium, slaying and ripping apart even the mightiest aberrants that Malice threw at him.   Finally he grew tired of this, his rage pointless as there was noone who could sate his thirst for battle. But there was a single god he was yet to face. One that waited in hiding, not interested in this whole squabble... one that finally got interested after Rage announced that whoever manages to defeat him - or even tie - will earn his eternal loyalty.   His own mother/creator, Shadow emerged from her palace which even Rage couldn't reach. Soon they fought, two gods that could be considered personified self-improvement. Both perfectly matched, as whenever one of them managed to think of different move, the opponent quickly concocted the way to counter it. The combat lasted for seemingly eternity, until Rage finally understood that he can never defeat Shadow. That very moment he sworn his eternal loyalty simply for the chance to duel her from time to time, whenever he grows tired of fighting conventional opponents.   He then build Fields of Blood, since then remaining a constant threat that regularly goes around the Gehenna in pillaging spree, uniting inhabitants of his domain into the most terrifying warhost to ever be seen in Dark.

Morality & Philosophy

Rage considers himself the ultimate god of war, one much more true than Warmaidens and Ember who, for him at least, represent an idealised approach to warfare. On battlefield honour, victory and tactics matters nothing, as war is simply mindless bloodshed won by the one with his arm the strongest and his magical or aural power the most powerful.   And Rage is a personification of war, capable of granting those that worship him the strenght they need to see through the mindless slaughter that every battle truly is. He doesn't care for the reasoning behind it, happily granting his attention to every person that shows strenght, courage and perseverance - not to mention being simply too stubborn to die.   Beside this he is also a 'son' of Tyrant and Shadow that inherited both Shadow's drive to self-improvement and Tyrant's need to rule and show his power. This merged within Rage into an intense drive to search for strong enemies... and defeating them, proving themselves to be strongest. Such mindset is also something he approves off, and one his descendants inherited from him.

Personality Characteristics

Likes & Dislikes

Likes: self-improval on a battlefield, war and conquest, searching for strong enemies to prove yourself and raping strong women after defeating them (most of them considers this a highest possible honour, though). Dislikes those who can't fight and - even more - pacifists.

Social

Family Ties

Created by Shadow from piece of Tyrant soul, making the two of them his sort-of parents, and a sibling of Bonehead, Munch and Betrayal. Father of vast number of daemons and demigods.

Religious Views

Tends to see religion as all gods do. A sort of contract between mortals and immortals.   Gods provide afterlife and make sure that mortals won't blow up their world to smitherens (or that they won't be wiped out by something). In turn they set up certain rules the mortals should adhere to, that are in long-term good for them even if sometimes hard to follow. They receive veneration as a payment, and use mortals as a pawns in their schemes.
