The Council was formed four years after the beginning of The Almost War, in the year 1208 AS. They oversee the laws of the land across all five continents, and have done since their formation. Although most continents – and their respective kingdoms – handle their own laws, the Council acts as an unbiased judge and jury. In the event that a sentence is deemed wrong in some capacity, the Council will oversee proceedings and review the case (though this tends to happen less often, especially with the recent break of the Shields of Amarynth from the Council’s charge).   The Azure Council also oversees peace treaties between the continents, including those between individual kingdoms. This is in order to prevent any outright wars from occurring – or bring a swift end to any unlikely wars that manage to see the light of dawn. Of course, their approach does not always work. Sometimes the Council is not fast enough to act. Sometimes they are not ruthless enough in their actions. Such is the way of a Council where it’s members – and their personal views – are constantly changing.   When the Council was first formed, the agreement between the Continents for an everlasting peace was made on a secluded island just west of Varenfall – Amarynth Isle. With the growing nations and the fall of some civilizations, the number of seats on the Azure Council has varied over the course of history. For the last 300 years, the number of seats has remained at fifteen. Currently thirteen individuals are seated on the Council, whilst two seats have been vacant for the last seven years.     The Azure Council employed a group of elite fighters not long after its creation. These elites became known to the populace as the Shields of Amarynth. Though they often stayed on Amarynth Isle, keeping watch over the Council and those awaiting trial, some would be selected to venture out into the world. Namely, those few who acted as protectors to a specific council member and would watch over them as they travelled from the Isle to their home. On rare occasions, the elites of the Shields could be seen travelling with a particularly horrible convict.   It is up to the citizens to decide who represents them on the Council. Most hold elections where anyone eligible is allowed to vote for a candidate (such is the case in Varenfall, the Dragon Isles, Aeris, Nione, the Sira Tribes, the Hagmoor Tribes, and the Frostwalk Peaks). Some representatives are selected by government officials (such is the case in Marithell, Eldorwin, at any of the Elven spires, Camana Bay, and Desolation Peaks). There are ways to remove an elected official - be it via the Council itself or by regulations but in place for the corresponding area.

Structure

Current Council Members

  Chairman of Amarynth
  • Representative Romero Helder
  • Descended - or at least rumoured - from the first Chairman of Amarynth. Lord Romero resides on Amarynth Isle and chairs the council meetings, having the deciding vote in the event of a tie.
  Seat of the Dragon Isles
  • Representative Torinn of Clan Moonscale
  • The Dragon Isles has had a representative on the Council since its inception. Torinn, of the highly respectable Dragonborn clan Moonscale, is held in high regards by both the Council and citizens of the Dragon Isles.
    Seat of Varenfall
  • Representative Faila Pasha
  • Lady Faila - charismatic and intelligent, very popular with the people of Varenfall. Though she had to fight tooth and nail for the position at the beginning, she has since grown into the role and become respected by the people.
    Seat of Aeris
  • Representative Orel Khalid
  • This seat has been difficult to claim ever since the empire was dismantled. Orel Khalid, bastard son of a nobleman, has had a terrible up-hill battle to face since he took the representative position.
    Seat of Marithell
  • Representative Kithri
  • The people of Marithell are used to the democratic response. The only difficult they ever had is finding the right representative for the role. In Kithri, they have found a quick witted, stubborn, and cunning individual - perfect for the position in the eyes of many.
    Seat of Eldorwin
  • Representative Dorn Stormwind
  • The controversy surrounding Dorn is never ending. As a spy from the Order of Ilyn and a political mastermind, he has struggled since his appointment to divert attention, gather information, and fairly represent Eldorwin and it's people.
    Seat of Nione
  • Representative Shava Windriver
  • Of all the respected nobles and clan chiefs, Shava feels sorely out of place. However, her street smarts and understanding of the middle and lower classes has made her a favourite representative among the people of Nione - so much so that even the noble citizens have come to back her decisions.
    Seat of the Varenfall Spires
  • Representative Sariel
  • Calm, cool, collected - everything that elves of legend are rumoured to be. Sariel is the perfect elf for the position. Despite her status as leader of her spire, none of the other spires in Varenfall dispute her position on the Council.
Seat of the Eldorwin and Nione Spires
  • Representative Meriele Amakiir
  • It is not often you see battle hardened soldiers sit on the Council, but those at the Nione and Eldorwin spires know that Meriele can hold her own against the other members, and she has done since her appointment 75 years ago.
    Seat of Camana Bay
  • Representative Carlin Folkor
  • Seafarer's are often the bane of the Council. Carlin is no exception to this rule. Laid back, arrogant, with a seemingly careless attitude, the Council continues to wonder how a Gnome like him ever got voted in as representative.
    Seat of the Sira Tribes
  • Representative Marcon of Sira
  • As a barbarian tribe, those of the Sira have only recently begun taking a representative to the council. This was because of a recent altercation. Though they are the most lax about their attendance, when Marcon turns up to a meeting you can be damn sure he'll have his say.
    Seat of Frostwalk Peaks
  • Representative Oskar Battlehammer
  • Oskar - lord of House Battlehammer and advisor to the King of Frostwalk. A wise and obvious choice for the Dwarves of Frostwalk Peak.
    Seat of Desolation Peaks
  • Representative Bardryn Loderr
  • [liBardryn has recently taken over the position from his uncle, and though he is still learning the ins and outs of politics, he has proven time and time again that he is capable of matching his fellow representatives on the Council.

Vacated Seats

Seat of the Aeris and Marithell Spires
  • Having been vacant for the past seven years, one can't help but wonder exactly what problems the elves of these spires are facing and whether or not the council will tolerate the seat being empty for much longer.
    Seat of the Hagmoor Tribes
  • Another recent addition (though not as recent as the Sira Tribes). Their advance into civilization has been nurtured by the Council, and so the Council saw fit for them to have a representative. Currently vacated as the people are waiting for an election of the representative.
