Once a great temple dedicated to Helm, the God of Justice and Protection. Now, a mere memory of what once was, ruined stone and marble, burnt wood and shattered glass the only signs that the temple was ever there.

Purpose / Function

This great temple was dedicated to Helm. Every alter was adorned with his symbol, every shrine had his name and title carved into the stonework. It was for Helm and Helm alone - no other god or goddess was seen to be represented or worshipped within the temple grounds in any way.   It was the only such temple of it's kind, where only one god was worshipped. There have been many temples over the years where certain gods are favoured, such is the nature of the mortal world, but none like this.

Architecture

Marvelous stone hallways, carved with intricate patterns and ever present symbols of Helm. The main hall, an expansive room once filled with ashen wood benches in three separate seating areas, the ceiling towering high above the hall, light flooding in through stained glass windows to the left and right sides. Above the main alter, a single, giant stained glass window once hung proudly, a golden gauntlet and an open, violet eye staring out across the main hall acting as the centre piece of the glass.   The alters and various shrines were carved from marble - dazzlingly bright in the summer sun, almost completely white and a stark contrast to the gray cobblestone floors and decorated walls. The main alter, again carved from marble, was adorned with gold and silver patterns etched into the surface. Ancient words of the gods. A language lost to time, and to the flames that tore down the temple.

History

Many believe that the reason the temple was burnt to the ground in the first place was because it was dedicated solely to Helm, and those people would be correct in their beliefs.   There were those who resented his sole place of worship, and over time they became so angry that the sought to destroy his holy place, in spite of fear of retribution from Helm himself. They saw an opportunity when The Vanishing occurred and the Iridan Pantheon no longer walked the Material Plane. They could destroy what they believed to be a blasphemous temple, and Helm would be none the wiser. Or he could not act, not now that he had left their realm.
