Íðæn

'As the Worldfather fashioned the stones, the lakes, the mountains, and the seas of Gæðí the world, so did the Binder his high sister order the laws of that place; the stars in the night did she hang, their motion set to her will; and so too were the movements of the wind and seas within her divine domain; for Íðæn is the swinging pendulum, the Balance that drives Gæðí...'

- Wylden creation story, original Skelð unknown

Though Gáðæn is often viewed as being foremost among the Nostín, as well as Íðæn's brother, the truth is that he and many of the other Nostín and Súðárín gods are actually descended from Íðæn, who is sometimes known among the Wylden as 'the Binder'. She was the first, crafting the laws by which Gæðí functions and exists; those same laws that allowed the rest of the gods to do their work.

Note: Though Íðæn is also the progenitor of the first of the Súðárín gods, twins Reynja and Júgrín, the Binder herself is considered among the Nostín.

Divine Domains

Íðæn embodies the physical laws of creation, and the balance essential to life and existence. Many of her most famous decrees end up seeming almost detrimental or dangerous to her fellow gods, Creation, or both, leading to some confusion among the mortal Wylden, many of whom respect her as a god, but do not understand her and thus tend to avoid worshiping or invoking her (in some cases even fearing her).

Among her fellow gods and some of the more educated and philosophically inclined Wylden (particularly the Riverseers and Stonespeakers, the latter of whom see her as one of their patrons), she is better understood, as they see that without certain balances, their beautiful world would fade to a dull gray clockwork parody.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

Pendulums and scales are symbolic of Íðæn, as are any motifs comprised of opposites, particularly symbolism combining a balance of light and dark.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

On the rare occasions she has been seen in physical form, Íðæn has been described as tall, of indeterminate age, somehow seeming both young and old, yet at the same time neither. Her black hair is swept back from her face, save for two thin braids framing her features and hanging to her waist, the rest falling down her back. From head to toe she is flawlessly symmetrical, one side precisely mirroring the other. Many would call her beautiful, if the could get over the overwhelming sense of awe most mortals tend to feel in her presence.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Through watching the world throughout its existence, communion with the Great Spirits, and the actions of her fellow gods, Íðæn seeks, as do all the Nostín and Súðárín, to experience their creation.
