The Grovetenders
The Grovetenders are a special military organization for the New Elven Union who patrol the forests and hillsides of Nikel, Northern Aestrum, and Glavenen. They are an almost entirely elven group, known for their excellent marksmanship, mithril armor, and howling arrows. When patrolling, they travel in groups called packs, with anywhere from four - twelve members. Each pack patrols an area for a time between two - fourteen weeks, and will carefully stalk any threats they notice.
In times of war, the Grovetenders serve as the vanguard for scouting and hit and run attacks. Each member is expertly schooled in surviving off the land and scavenging for themselves. Capable of living seperate from the main forces of the New Elven Union, they can operate well behind enemy lines for extended periods of time. When not serving as scouts and ambush troops they serve in the back of the New Elven Union's lines firing with uncanny precision. Thousands of them with their howling arrows have struck fear into many armies, forcing retreat. When not at war they patrol the wilderness for bandits and monsters. Though they are to protect all of the New Elven Union, many human-dominated areas dislike having them around. Respecting their hostile wishes, Grovetenders don't get too close to areas that are known for being hostile to them. Instead, they leave them to solve their problems themselves.
