Assisting Borenhollow with their animal attacks
Completed on 29th of Brynholm, by Naomi, Aster, Aezrah, Daisy, and this one (Trothar)
Traveling to Borenhollow:
The guild members met in Amalite and walked the four hours to Borenhollow. Daisy sent a message that she would follow behind us. About halfway to Borenhollow, five orcs and an orog appeared in front of us and attacked our band.
The orcs were strong and armed with clubs and javelins, and one orog had plate armor. The orcs shouted “Orca warhon!” repeatedly. Aezrah killed one orc quickly. This one was hit by one orc’s great axe, narrowly missed a second orc’s javelin, and was hit again by a third orc’s javelin. These attacks nearly killed this one but Aster and Naomi healed this one with their magic.
Aezrah killed a second orc and retreated slightly. Seeing the four orcs still progressing, this one also moved back. The plated orog moved toward this one and motioned for Aezrah to move out of the way. Aezrah refused and was knocked unconscious. Seeing we were losing the battle, this one turned into a brown bear and attacked the plated orog, who Aster then killed with the sword hidden in his cane. Aster had been wounded and surrounded by two orcs, so this one killed them as well. Somewhere in the battle the sixth orc was also killed, though this one did not see who had done so.
As we were recovering, a short halfling with a patchwork coat and sword much too large for her came up from the road. She introduced herself as Daisy. This one was unsure what to think of this short creature, but would have to wait to see her fighting abilities.
We continued to Borenhollow, eager for rest after the skirmish with the orcs. Naomi commented on how the orcs seemed to target this one. Aster recalled that orcs tell that before orcs lived in Galledall lizardfolk once took their land. Thus they forever see lizardfolk as enemies. This could be important information for future adventures.
We make it to Borenhollow:
When we arrived in Borenhollow, we met Noah, who originally posted the advertisement. We were all tired after our fight with the orcs and asked if we could rest for the day and investigate the woods tomorrow. Noah said Borenhollow did not have an inn, but a family in town could house us. When we mentioned the orcs, Noah also mentioned that more orcs have been spotted east of Borenhollow and that the The Grovetenders might begin watching Borenhollow as well.
Noah took us to Graham, a survivor of one of the attacks. We learned that animals were working together like a pack, attacking humans, and that a bear had entered the town a few days prior to our arrival. Graham feared a spirit was controlling the animals.
After talking to Graham, Noah took us to the house where we could rest. That evening, a well-dressed green dragonborn came to town and also stayed with the family. Because there were no other rooms, the dragonborn shared with us. The dragonborn says he is “Irden Frojhan” from the United Clans of Midiiz. He offers us 150 silver to give him safe passage to Amalite, and additional 150 silver to take him to Kianthor due to his time urgency. We agreed to escort him.
Investigating the attacks:
The next morning, we left Bornhollow and went east. We heard a sound that sounded almost like a melodic animal call. Apparently the sound was someone speaking Sylvan. Aster said something in Pananem, and a voice responded “Go away”. Aster asked more questions, but got no response. Nearby four wolves and a bear appeared, but they did not approach. Two other figures made of leaves appeared beside them. Aezrah and Aster told the group that these beings were dryads. They spoke to the dryads and translated for us.
The dryads told us the Black Riders forced them from the Faewild, and they moved here. The news about the Black Riders caused distress in Aezrah, and possibly Aster also. Aster tried to convince them that the villagers had a right to live here also. However, the conversation did not work and the dryads attacked.
The fight was difficult. Two eagles joined the other animals and the dryads caused the ground to be difficult to cross. This one turned into a brown bear again. We killed one of the wolves and eagles, but Aezrah and Daisy were injured. Aezrah, after recovering, phase shifted out and killed two of the wolves. Daisy killed the fourth wolf with her great sword. A great eagle attacked Naomi but missed, and Naomi killed it with her mace as it flew away. Naomi then shot her crossbow at one of the dryads, and Aster stabbed it. The second dryad knocked Aster unconscious. Aezrah shot his gun and hit the dryad who attacked Aster.
Daisy hit the bear, helping this one kill it before attacking the dryad who knocked out Aster. Naomi dashed to Aster and revived him with her healing potion. Aster stood and stabbed the dryad who attacked him, finally killing it. The remaining dryad charmed this one into protecting it as it ran away. Fortunately for the team, Aezrah rushed the dryad and killed it with his scimitar before this one could react. This one calmed down after the dryad’s death.
After the battle, Daisy strangely made a flower crown out of the dryads’ leaves and she took a wolf pelt. We all take the animals to Borenhollow as proof that the job was done, and the halfling impressively carried the large bear. The people of Borenhollow were grateful and paid us what they could. Naomi left all of her share and Aster left part of his, which increased their gratefulness.
We took Frojhan with us to Kianthor. He remained shy but began to like us. He paid us for his safe passage. We learn that Irden is his clan, and they are a clan of necromancy mages. Nothing else of importance happened and we returned to Amalite.
