Vitruvius Beck

Vitruvius Beck, Lord of Gryphon’s Corner, rules his coastal stronghold with a measured hand, balancing the region’s noble traditions with the ever-present threats of the wild northern winds. His bloodline, though noble, has always been tied more to the sky than to politics, as his ancestors were among the first to tame the great gryphons that now define the town’s identity. Under his rule, Gryphon’s Corner has remained both a fortress and a sanctuary, a place where the winds carry the cries of young gryphons learning to fly, and where the Wild Men of Wildehail test their mettle before claiming a mount of their own.
The Beck family crest, a silver gryphon clutching a lightning bolt, reflects their legacy as riders and storm-bravers. Their estate, known as Hregghold Hall, sits atop the cliffside overlooking the sea, its high towers offering perches for the noble beasts they raise. While Vitruvius is a man of order and discipline, his son Virgil shattered the family’s expectations, forsaking his birthright for the chaotic revelry of the Street Magicians in Retch. This betrayal gnaws at Vitruvius’s pride, for he had hoped his heir would take his place among the skyborne elite. Now, his gaze turns to the younger noble youths of the town, ensuring that Gryphon’s Corner remains a beacon of strength, its riders ever vigilant, its traditions unbroken.
The town itself thrives on the symbiosis between beast and rider. Every year, the Aeris Trials are held, where young hopefuls—noble-born and commoner alike—prove their worth before the eyes of the Wild Men, seeking to claim a gryphon of their own. The finest gryphon eggs are gifted to Hregghold Hall, and only those who have proven themselves in the trials may approach the nesting cliffs to make their bond. Beyond the riders, skilled artisans craft harnesses, barding, and skyborne weaponry, while alchemists trade in rare oils and tinctures said to sharpen a gryphon’s senses.
