Malstrom Briwood Character in Galfin | World Anvil

Malstrom Briwood

Malstrom grew up with everything handed to him as a child, for he was the son of a noble. During his adolescence, Malstrom wandered outside the majestic walls of Skygarde to find the Forgotten Slums of the outer walls. The people living here had no money to their name, the floors they slept on were cold and the clothes they wore were tattered. The young noble witnessed neighbors brawl over scraps of bread thrown from the walls of Skygarde. The patrollers on the walls weren't throwing the food to feed the peasants; they only wanted to watch them quarrel. Malstrom watched in horror and was disgusted with the guards’ behavior. The young man spent the next years of his life living in the slums, secretly taking coin out of his father's bank to buy supplies for the needy. Malstrom was around twenty and he had never expected anything in return for his dedicated service. On a grey morning, Malstrom noticed an old man watching him from a distance but decided to ignore him. The generous do-gooder set out for the river to wash some of his clothes, he passed by a craggy old house close to the river but distanced from the slums. As Malstrom washed his clothing he sensed a presence behind him, cautiously turning around, Malstrom saw the old man sitting on a creaky wooden chair on the porch of the aging house. The wary young man approached the old gentleman. "Tea?" the old man spoke clear and strong. Malstrom pondered for a moment and out of pure curiosity, sat down in another wooden chair next to the table with the kettle. The young man reached out his hand to introduce himself. "Malstrom Briwood." "I know who you are, you are a wealthy noble's son pretending to be poor, why?" the old man shot this question like a bow. "Well, when I was young I witnessed the pain the people of the slums had to bear and I vowed to aid them in any way possible." The old man seemed delighted, with a small struggle, the man stood up and handed Malstrom a key. "What's this for?" Malstrom questioned as the man started walking away. "The house." the Man yelled back as he joined the crowd of peasants walking back from the river to the slums. Malstrom was awe-struck; no one from the outer walls would simply give up their house. As he slowly unlocked the rotting door a sudden surge of power went through him, everything became briefly foggy then Malstrom was snapped back to this plane. The young Malstrom stood in an enormous room that had ancient artifacts floating in the air; almost like a hovering display case. The old man sat across the room in different garbs than before, finer looking clothes, blue with yellow shapes sewn on. "Boto Silverstaff." the old man reached out his hand; Malstrom shook the well-known wizard's hand and sat down. The two gentlemen talked for hours. After that talk, Boto offered to train Malstrom as his apprentice, Malstrom accepted, especially after Boto told him that he could help many more people than just those in the slums. Now years later, Malstrom has moved up the ranks of the Magi Guild; second in power to only a select few teachers at the Guild. Malstrom Briwood uses his magic to defend the Realm of Galfin, and on occasion make hundreds of bread loaves appear in the homes in the Forgotten Slums of the outer walls. light magic   light magic quick learner adventurous inexperienced naive 30   Killed by Trineign Winterblood near the end of the Hearthic Invasion.
