Legend of the Waywyrd King
Long ago, there was a king who ruled over the land with wisdom and benevolence. He was eventually called the Waywyrd King, for he was a wanderer at heart and often disappeared into the woods for days at a time. Despite his frequent wanderings, the people of the kingdom loved and respected him.
One day, the Waywyrd King wandered into the forest and did not return. Many search parties were sent out, but no trace of the king was ever found. Some say that he was lured into the woods by a magical being, while others believe that he simply lost his way and perished in the wilderness.
But the legend of the Waywyrd King did not end with his disappearance. Forest travelers and wanderers began to report seeing ghostly shapes of a king on a throne in the running water, in the blowing winds, and in the random shapes of tree roots. The image would appear for just a moment, and then disappear back into the natural world, just as the Waywyrd King had disappeared.
Some say that the Waywyrd King became one with the forest, and that his spirit lives on in the trees and the streams. Others believe that he is simply lost, forever wandering through the woods, searching for his way back to the kingdom he once ruled. But no matter the interpretation, the Waywyrd King remains a beloved figure in the folklore of the land, an inspiration to all those who yearn to wander and explore the mysteries of the natural world or a warning for children to not go too far into the thicket.
