Jaggedking Deckard Oakhand
Jaggedking (a.k.a. Jagged Prince)
Deckard, born into a failing realm of Fogholt. His family fought and lost the Fracturing War as they sought to spread their ideology of magical superiority. After their defeat, they lost most of their realms and were relegated as outcasts to remain in their mountainous capital city. Not long after the Fogholt plague crept out of their homeland and devastated the realm for decades. This calamity left the spiroak people of the mountains cutoff from trade and aid. As the failing kingdom that seceded the powerful Vul’Adnian Magistrate lay docile, their Jaggedking had an idea. Deacon Oakhand built a machine within his throne room, one that replicated the powerful Essence Engine of his ancestor, the Magelord Adonis. Deckard, the Jagged Prince, watched his father toil with his device as the population continued to dwindle. As the final hours set on the last remnants of his legacy, Deacon succeeded in activating his Soul Engine. Every living being within Fogholt was killed in that moment, their bodies destroyed by the engine. Deckard watched as his father sat upon his throne with wires and tubes attached to his frail body. The souls of Fogholt fed into their lich king’s machine, including that of his son Deckard.
As the power flowed through the king of Fogholt, he used his lich abilities to create spectral versions of his citizens, free from any pain and suffering, cursed and gifted to live out their immortal day to day lives, free from the plague that rid them of their wellbeing. The people were unaware they continued life in a state of purgatory. Only Deckard knew his father had done something to sustain his people. Deacon spoke only through his son now. The Jaggedking of the lonely mountain would live life eternal, keeping his people alive through his soul engine.
After centuries of this existence, outsiders dared not enter into the cursed, plagued realm of ghosts. Few who entered into survived the journey, not due to the plague as that was rendered dormant by mages of the realm after years of devastation, many were slain by an elite group of blade ogres who were honour bound to protecting the mountain, sworn to a blood oath with the Oakhand family. The Oathblades were silent killers, often times leaving their slain prey on the border to turn away any adventurous individuals.
Finally, after years of regret, the young Deckard sought outsider help to dismantle the Soul Engine to allow his people to move on into the afterlife.
Deckard was able to find a nearby group of adventurers who were let in by one of the Oathblades. They successfully destroyed the soul engine, killing Deacon but releasing all the people of Fogholt. The energy of the blast surged into the spectral citizens and allowed them one more life. They were once again mortal, out of their eternal loop, their bodies manifested into true bodies. All the ghosts of Fogholt were now able switch between a material and spectral form.
Deckard took over at a young age to rule his people, although the other Five families long thought the Oakhand line had perished. A few years have passed and the young jagged prince is continuing to rebuild his family legacy.
With curled black hair and a penchant for curiosity, Deckard’s youthful innocence is juxtaposed against his father machinations. As he witnesses the restoration of Fogholt and the freedom of his people, he becomes a symbol of hope and renewal. Despite the shadows of his past, he seeks to forge a new path, striving to understand his identity amidst the remnants of his father’s reign.
