Interplanetary Monitoring Organization

Steeped in contreversy, scandal and a possible dissolution, the Interplanetary Monitoring Organization is the spiritual, space-bound successor of the Global Union - except, this time, the IMTO would deal with space itself. Rapidly growing space infrastructure, especially near the Tarre Langrange point, and increasing standoffs between Ardenian and Weltkrian forces demanded a new organization to deal with the new theater of space.   The IMTO was founded by Secretary General Humbolt on May 2nd, 2002, and was internationally recognized during the signing of the Interplanetary Monitoring Act. The IMTO is the only supranational organization, excluding military alliances, to have a fleet tonnage over 50 kilotons. Under the IMA, new colonies and their resource extraction would fall under the IMTO, until jurisdiction could be transferred once said colony was fully developed.

Structure

The IMTO is led by a Director, elected by the General Assembly every four years. This director controls all major arms from the IMTO - to the sprawling hospital ships to the smallest trawlers, the Director is responsible for executing and directing the IMTOs mandate - which, under the current adminstration of Director Johnston, is peace in space. Due to the very nature of the IMTO and space, the majority of the IMTOs jurisdiction is controlled by small bases located at major langrage points - however, due to Weltkrian insistence, no IMTO bases can be found in the outer asteriod belts.

Public Agenda

The public mandate of the IMTO is to "advance the interests of humankind in space, at any cost." IMTO assets can carry out this mandate by any means necessary. IMTO assets patrol all major space-elevators, excluding the privately owned SIES, and escort cargo ships, patrol colonies, and generally ensure order throughout the Galen System.

Assets

The IMTO is the only supranational organization to possess armed, combat-capable spacecraft, at numbers far greater than the corpo-fleets of Specialized Electronics or the Northern Lights indepedent rescue command - the IMTO posseses over 120 combat capable "Orbital Trawlers", multipurpose ships designed for light combat, patrol and interplanetary SAR.
