Dragonology
Overview
Dragonology is the study of dragons and draconic creatures related to them. Dragons and their relatives possess great elemental magic, their kind have inspired religions, myths, legends, and more. studying them have helped efforts to stop their destruction as their kind are powerful and destroy much. They also lend themselves to the creations of many tools and inventions such as unique armors, weapons, and potions.
Classification of draconian creatures
For a creature to be classified as draconic they will have the listed features. Further more all draconians including dragons are descendants of the basilisk.
All draconians have a close connection with elemental magic, it is intrinsic to their being.
1. Has some kind of breath attack.
2. Can speak or understand draconic.
3. Directly within the Draconian family tree.
4. Close connection with the elements
5. All draconians possess a unique pupil shape, many call it the sword pupil as it resembles a sword.
6. Hoards something, and has a layer.
Dragons
Overview:
Dragons are highly intelligent creatures and are among the most powerful beings in the world. The control the very elements a clash between dragons is a natural disaster. furthermore they possess many fascinating abilities and strong cultures and personalities. All dragons also possess the ability to take a humanoid form though they rarly do so. Dragons are worthy of much study and many go beyond that and worship these great beings.
Dragon Aging Classification:
Hatchling: Ages, 0-10
Dragling: Ages, 10-40
Young Adult: Ages, 40-100
Adult: Ages, 100-900
Ancient: Ages, 900-On words
General dragon size:
The size of dragons does vary between species but in general the sizes below are good estimates.
100 year old Adult: Height 10 to 12 feet at the shoulder. Wingspan: 80 to 85 feet. Length of 18 to 20 feet.
900+ years old Ancient: Height 15 to 17 feet at the shoulder. Wingspan: 120 to 125 feet. Length of 30 to 35 feet.
Biology of flight:
Dragon bones are hollow and they have an extremely unique bone structure that no other creature has. Their bone structure while hollow and therefore lighter in comparison to other animals and their bones, are built in such a way that it allows them to keep their strength and sturdy bones. (bone structure looks like 3D Gray fiend. This allows their bones to be light but not also allows for them too keep much of their strength and be harder to break than bird bones.)
Dragons also possess three large air sacs within their body to alloy them to be even lighter, these air sacs are their lung system, and it is very similar to that of birds.
Their wingspan is long and their wing membranes reach from their shoulders past their hips, so that the heaviest parts of their bodies will have lift. Their tails also have large wings so that they can steer themselves and so their tails don't drag behind them in flight.
Their wing shoulders are also high enough from their fore leg shoulders that they don't conflict with one another. They also possess a keel, a breastbone that their wing muscles attach to, this gives them a barrel chest appearance.
All of these allow dragons the ability to fly. (At least in theory, this is mostly to make it believable that they could achieve flight.)
Draconic Classification:
All ten dragon species can be put into three categories, these categories help a great deal in understanding their behavior and a potential interaction with them.
These categories are song, power, and battle song. Basically dragons respect only two things, music or power some species have an equal respect of both. Dragons who respect music respect the music a person can make because it is a reflection of their mind and soul, the creative power they possess within themselves. While that creative power can be express through art, story telling or any number of other ways, dragons resonate best through the expression of music. The dragon species that respect music are for lack of a better term more on the good spectrum. they can be gentile and kind, and wiling to lend aid, or reasoned with. This does not mean they are not incredibly dangerous especially of disrespected. But they defiantly don't look at you as a possible meal.
Dragons that respect power are highly dangerous, one should avoid them at all costs, while they are not evil creatures they are highly unpleasant. These dragons are highly territorial, very battle minded, and only respect power. For the most part they only really respect physical strength, ones strength of will, or magical strength. An interaction with any of these dragons will almost certainly end with your death, terribly injured, indebted, or worse.
The dragons that have an equal respect of both music and power are in the category of battle song. They are quite unpredictable they can be pleasant to work with or interaction with them could end badly. One should be very cautious when interacting with them.
