Smugglers of Magic
The Smugglers of Magic was a group active in Bersail during the time of the Holy Cleansings. It is the main focus of the Smugglers of Magic Campaign.
The orginization used to be a sub-operation of the Stolen untill the group ended up defecting when having acreud enough power.
Initially the orginization was created to smuggle people persecuted by the Holy Cleansings into Bersail, which was safe. So it would source people from over the land, transport them and then get them in the city in secret to avoid problems at the gates which could check magic users regardless of the city being safe on paper.
The orginization would upon entrance ask for another fee not mentioned before, which they would use to either extort people in the city to have their relative back or if there isn't anybody then it would be used to sell the person into slavery on the black market.
When magic users couldn't pay they'd often do a Parafonos Blood operation on them, to avoid their magic becoming a problem if the person would seek revenge (something Orlon implemented after having a magic user seek revenge early on in the orginization)
Assets
The orginization started out with a pure human trafficking and smuggling operation.
Around the year 655 this however changed.
The group became independent from the Stolen and as a result started to push against stolen territory.
A later in the same year Fièn took sole ownership of the orginization and started to expand the orginizations network more. Opening gambling houses and creating an network of informants around the city. Fien also over the coming years would increase the orginization to reach a bit further than just Bersail, to lesser degrees.
Due to the witchhunts being gone, smuggling was not as profitable anymore, the infrastructure for the smuggling was repurposed to drug dealing.
After the year 655 the smugglers was one of the big 3 gangs of Bersail, having effectively replaced the Red revelers. It dealt in all kinds of illicit business in the city, holding protection of various businesses, smuggling and selling illigal goods, information brokering, etc.
History
- 644: The Smugglers were founded on initiative of Orlon and funded by the Stolen to work as a sub-orginization.
- 654: the witchhunters of the holy cleansing enter Bersail too, which they for the longest time had left alone.
- 654, 38th of Crawen: the player characters of the Smugglers of magic campaign join the orginization through the Stolen.
- 655: The smugglers defect from the stolen, going independent and having the stolen become an enemy.
- 655: The party and Orlon get in a fight, Orlon lost and was captured. Later it was found out this was in part caused by subtle manipulation of Vena, the leader of the Red revelers. After a big fight with the Stolen over the Necra Itlin and the gang defecting from the stolen, Rhiannon leaves. She is asked by Aelfwyn to leave with the Necra Itlin, to take it "off the playing field". Rhiannon accepts for her own, Hope and her unborn baby's safety. Lady joins the orginization after helping take down Orlon. Orlon is spared by Lady, so long as he and his children leave Bersail.
- 655: The orginization gets in a fight with the Red revelers, which was a long time coming. The leader of the revelers is killed during a night of chaos where the witchhunts also came to a conclusion in the city. The red revelers orginization completely falls apart without any leadership.
- 655: all player characters of the Smugglers of magic campaign (which had been the leaders) except Fièn leave, leaving her as the leader of the Smugglers.
