Humans naturally evolved, they are the species that biologically is currently on top when it comes to the humanoids and even beyond, controlling the most territory and being the most numerous in most places across the world. The main reason humans are on top is their co-operation and their strong brutality.
Humans were one of the animal species that by accident got a soul and through that gained the ability to use magic. Like all humanoids, humans can theoretically survive without a soul, they can't user magic and have dumbed down emotions in that state however.
