B&T Chapter 0: Balcazar’s Heist

General Summary

Balcazar, Dhamash, & Synok are moving through the jungle to find the mysterious Tomb of Madrakor, explore and find out the following things:
  • The temple appears to have been abandoned sometime after the war that shrunk Morithus’ territory
  • Seems to be of religious/reverent significance
Upon finding a secret passage behind a dismantled Dragonborn skeleton, they discover a battle-torn hallway, littered with dismantled kobold skeletons   Initiative Order (both encounters)
  • Dhamash: 18 (80 HP)
  • Balcazar: 16
  • Synok: 10
  • Madrakor the Dracolith: 14 (13/180 HP)
  • Kobold Skeletons: last (get merked immediately)
  Dhamash destroys one Kobold with his Morningstar and Synok constricts the other until it explodes. The trio continue on to the temple room and find Madrakor the Dracolich.  

Balcazar, Dhamash & Synok vs. Madrakor The Dracolich

  Round 1:
  • Dhamash: 5 damage with crossbow and Nat 20s the glaive, striking 26 damage
  • Balacazar: tries to Firebolt, but misses
  • Dracolith: bite & two claws, only hits one claw on Dhamash for 10 damage
  • Synok: shoots an arrow for 16 damage (sneak attack) and 8 with another shot
  Round 2
  • Dhamash: 10 acid damage via Acid Breath
  • Balcazar: 16 fire damage with Firebolt
  • Dracolith: Rot Breath, 14 necrotic damage to Balcazar, 7 necrotic damage to Dhamash. Balcazar reacts with Hellish Rebuke, so Dracolith takes 25 fire damage
  • Synok: Shoots an arrow for 14 piercing w/ sneak attack, scimitar to the face with 9 slashing after dropping down
  Round 3:
  • Dhamash: 12 slashing after leaping in the air
  • Balacazar: 29 force damage with Erdrich Blast, exploding the Dracolich
  The trio acquires various prizes:
  • Balcazar finds Madrakor’s Gauntlet and successfully attuned to it
  • Dhamash finds a Draconic Sentinel’s Glaive
  • Synok finds a Death Diamond

Rewards Granted

Madrakor’s Gauntlet: Malleable Cursed bracelet/armband (attunement required for use). Creates a bonus action that can be used to attack opponents (range 30 ft), shield attacks (+4 to AC), fly around the battlefield (up to 30 ft) or curse a target. However, upon initial attunement, user must make a saving throw based on their Spellcasting ability (Constitution if not a spellcaster), either gaining command on success or being cursed upon failure, taking 1d6 necrotic damage per turn. Can re-roll the save once per turn to remove the curse, or use a Greater Restoration spell. Once attuned, the user can roll a spell attack to cast this curse on a target once per short or long rest, against which the target must roll a saving throw. If the target succeeds, the curse rebounds and inflicts 1d6+spell caster mod on the user.   Death Diamond (Synok): Capable of raising and commanding up to 10 undead   Draconic Sentinel’s Glaive (Dhamash): +4 to Attack and Damage when wielded by Draconic beings
