A History of the southern peoples of the Kayamanan Peninsula, in particular the events of their culture after a devastating tidal flood.

    Summoning of Talingkali
    Disaster / Destruction

    In the Kayamanan Peninsula the Xetlani’s had long established colonies, assimilating the native mortal tribes of the peninsula into their empire. In the neighbouring seas, a xenophobic sect of tritons brought to fruition and sorcerous ritual that brought a terrible predator of the elemental plane of water into the region. Known as Talingkali, the whale-eater, this gargantuan monstrosity swept along the coast, causing massive tidal waves across the entire landmass. While the natives, who had long been a strong maritime culture, were able to survive the worst of the devastation, the settlements of the Xetlani colonists were utterly destroyed and never reclaimed.

    Rise of the Dangakanat Nations
    Founding

    Eventually, Talingkali vanishes from the waters around the peninsular. The surviving peoples of the Kayamanan, who clung to life by sheltering among the numerous coves and mangrove islands that had been created by Talingkali’s ravages, began to establish settlements once again. Scattered and wary of spreading or developing too fast, numerous nations sprung up across the Kayamanan and the archipelagos, developing a huge range of unique cultures.

    The Shoal Tyrant of Bengkete
    Life, Career

    In the triton kingdom of Bangkete, a zealous and bellicose individual rises to assume the leadership. A member of the cabal that had released Talingkali, he stokes xenophobia and aggression among his people. Seeing that land-mortals still cling to the existence along the peninsular, he leads his people in a decades long campaign of raids and assaults against the numerous nations of the surface. Whilst many peoples are slaughtered, the attacks spur the nations into allying and rallying to fight back against their aquatic attackers.

    War on the Waves
    Military: War

    The land-mortals of the Dangakanat Nations and tritons of Bengkete engage in a protracted war as the Shoal Tyrant urges more and more genocidal raids on the surface. Eventually the alliance of the Dangakanat nations grows too strong for the tyrants forces, and the tritons suffer a final defeat at the Battle of Bloodtide. The worst catastrophe for the tritons is soon to come however.

    Shoal Tyrant’s Fall
    Life, Death

    As the Shoal Tyrant reels from the defeat at the Battle of Bloodtide, a sudden surging in the ocean turns the tritons despair into horror. In a twist of fate, the conflict has drawn Talingkali back to the peninsula and it has detected the Bengkete city. As the surviving triton sorcerers attempt to send Talingkali back to its home plane, the Shoal Tyrant rides out alone to distract the beast. The tritons struggle to complete the ritual with their diminished numbers, but aid arrives unexpectedly as Dangakanat druids and mystics lend their power to finish the ritual. Talingkali is banished but not before swallowing the Shoal Tyrant and his shark mount whole.

    Ng Banka Reyna, the Queen of Boats
    Life, Career

    In the years that follow the War on the Waves, the Dangakanat Nations and the Bengkete Kingdom declare a truce. Both peoples enter a time of renewal as they recover from the conflict that left both sides drastically weakened. Among the Nations, the Mahingala nation emerges as the strongest and most successful. Under the leadership of Queen Dalisay, the Mahingala nation expands and absorb many other neighbouring tribes before going on to become the predominant nation on the peninsular. Queen Dalisay assumes the title of Ng Banka Reyna, the Queen of Boats, the most powerful ruler in the region since the days of the Xetlani colonies.

    Bountiful Alliance
    Diplomatic action

    More than a century after the War on the Waves ended, an historic accord is reached. The a majority of Dangakanat chiefs and the monarch of the Bengkete Kingdom agree that going forward, their peoples should cooperate and aide one another, so that the War on the Waves need never be repeated. With only a few naysayers who speak against it, the Bountiful Alliance is formed and persists to the present day.

    Ulugang, City in the Mangroves
    Founding

    The first permanent city in the Kayamanan Peninsular is founded, a cultural capital built as a locus for all the Dangakanat Nations to gather, trade, live and hold council during times of great import. Built in a sheltered cover around a large mangrove swamp, Ulugang is built both on land and on water, and is recounted with awe by outside traders as one of the most beautiful and exotic settlements in the world.

    Babaso, the shallow dogs
    Discovery, Scientific

    In the shallow straights of the Tatali Islands which lie close to the area where Talingkali was released, a band of Latithi fisherman make a remarkable discovery. A new species of amphibious beast, resembling a strange mix of otter and canine features, the fishermen name them Babaso, shallow dogs. Babaso turn out to be easily trainable and domesticated, and their excellent hunting skills both on land and in water soon make them valuable and sought after pets, as both guard and hunting beasts, with one even finding its way into the court of …. The Latithi tribe grows in wealth and prestige, the foremost trainers of Babaso in the land.
