Reign of the Hated King Gregori Hadradsson

Life, Career

79 - 113 ca.

The last in the line of Hadradsson, King Gregori IV is utterly reviled by the populace of Langharad, both highborn and low. He is greedy, miserly and volatile, and his own incompetent wickedness begins to shake the control that Mordred has exerted over the Dales.

The crown of Langharad had effectively been controlled by Mordred Rannasland for five generations of monarchs. In that time, Langharad’s wealth and resources had been syphoned northwards, and the common folk of the Dales were utterly at the mercy of Mordred’s lieutenants. So subtly and patiently did Mordred’s corruption spread, that for almost two centuries, few were fully aware of how complete Mordred’s hold was, or of the evil deeds that were being freely committed in the land.   From such heights had the Hadradsson dynasty begun, it ended in pitiable ignominy with Gregori Hadradsson. In a just world, Gregori would never have been crowned king. He was chosen by Mordred’s agents as the easiest to manipulate and his clear unsuitableness for leadership. While they were correct on both counts, they failed to take into account his wilfulness and greed.   Throughout his rule, his spiteful and erratic nature led to widespread discontent and outrage among his subjects, noble and peasant alike. Heavy taxation, harsh punishments and numerous personal slights to the nobility quickly sowed a thousand seeds of rebelliousness throughout the Dales. Every time Mordred’s servants tried to reign him in, through threat or bribe, his recalcitrance simply served to add fuel to the fire. The stranglehold Mordred’s agents had established began to erode, and the braver or more reckless Daleans began to make covert preparations to try and regain their independence.
