Military action
Aldwin Dawnwell and his alliance wage a war to free the Dales of Mordred and Gregori’s control, a war that ultimately lasts for eleven years. Thanks to aid from a number of unexpected allies, the war is eventually successful in deposing Gregori and the ousting of Mordred’s key lieutenants in the kingdom. With a new, independent and greatly respected incumbent on the throne of Langharad, the alliance turns northwards to Rilga to rid the world of Mordred once and for all.
Aldwin Dawnwell leads a combined force of Fennmoinian minotaurs and centaurs, along with a ragtag collection of supporters from Langharad and those Ardent Knights he can reach. Together they begin their offensive into Langharad, opposed ferociously by Langharadian forces ordered to fight by Mordred’s agents and their leader, Cristoff Siegrott. The balance of power swings back-and-forth over the years, with victories and losses on both sides. Mordred’s acolytes bolster their strength with powerful and destructive magics, as well as unleashing summoned fiends or monstrous arcane creations. The coalition is pushed to the brink, but at the pivotal battle of Bosfyre Fields, aid arrives from a wholly unexpected quarter. From their ships beached at the coast nearby, a cadre of Askenhart mages swoop from the sky. Recently declared a “free city”, Askenhart had also been targeted for infiltration and exploitation by Mordred. The elves were able to uncover the conspirators and ruthlessly expunged them, and had been awaiting their chance to enact their revenge. The prodigious skill of the Askenhart wizards were the undoing of Cristoff and his hold over the Langharad army. As the command structure of the Langharadian’s is thrown into chaos, a entire wing of their army turns traitor. A group of rebellious nobles, led by the Lord Earl Aethelfled of Rhisor, turn their swords and demand the Langharadian’s surrender. All Langharad soldiers and nobles who still held loyal to their country did so, seizing Mordred’s agents and any who had been complicit in their crimes. At a stroke, a massacre is avoided and the entire course of the war turns on its head. After Bosfyre Fields, bolstered by the rebel forces and the mages and conscript troops from Askenhart, Aldwin leads a sweeping campaign that sees them take complete control of Langharad. They capture and execute as many of Mordred’s agents as they can, though some still slip the net and escape into the wilderness. Gegori Hadradsson is deposed and slain by his own retinue of thegns, each of whom he has perosonally insulted. For the first time in centuries, Langharad seizes control of its own destiny once again.
