Quaerys' Fractured Mural
Whilst working as a hired scout in Rashkut, Quearys was part of an expedition to a set of ruins known only as the Old Cradle. While exploring the ruins, Quaerys became separated from the rest of his group, falling through a collapsing floor and into an isolated chamber. Within this chamber, he discovered fragments of a mural across the walls. While woefully incomplete and difficult to discern, Quaerys noticed a few details that stood out to him and filled him with unease.
West Wall Fragments: Near a break in the image near the top could be discerned some lines that might have once denoted light, such as a torch, a halo, the sun, a star or bright moon, impossible to tell. The most surviving detail showed images of massed figures with swords raised high, facing away from the light. A few other fragments showed curling lines, maybe arcs of mist or arcane energy, tails of beasts or perhaps the tails of banners. North Wall Fragments: Mostly damaged and illegible. A few remaining pieces clearly showed trees and mountains, as well as water looked like a pool of water or a lake. Otherwise, little else remained. East Wall Fragments: A central image was mostly damaged, but it appeared to be a crowd with arms raised in celebration or praise, but they were placed higher up in the image, rather than at ground level. The lower part of the mural was missing almost entirely. To the left and right of the central crowd, two rows of figures appeared to be moving away, each with their hands raised before them, as though each were carrying something, but the detail was too faded to make out what. South Wall Fragments: Mostly intact. It showed the earth cracking and splintering open like an earthquake. Atop hills, images of cities and towers breaking and tumbling while aflame.Unable to banish the images from his mind, even after leaving the ruins, Quaerys resolved to find out more about what this mural had once depicted. The south wall had shown cities falling. The greatest city in the south was Prayakotum. Perhaps if he were to journey there and find profitable employment, he might in time be able to uncover clues that might put his mind at ease.
