Ceris

The Tide King

Ceris is a truly ancient being, a primordial titan from the elemental plane of water, toweringly arrogant and an avowed enemy of Kavura. Banished from his native plane by a coterie of Marids when he tried to impose his dominance over them, Ceris sought out Kavura in the mortal world and demanded that she send him home so that he might take his revenge. Kavura refused, inwardly pleased that the upstart primordial had been humbled so.   Seething with resentment, Ceris retreated into the darkest depths of the mortal oceans to wait and plot his vengeance. When the gods departed the mortal world for good at the close of the Lost Mythos, Ceris saw his chance and rose along with the other titans to stake his claim over the mortal world. Ceris seized dominion over great swathes of the northern seas and the lands around, and either destroyed or dominated dozens of sea-based civilisations, supplanting himself as their deity over Kavura.   Throughout the Titanic Age, Ceris sought ways to undo the Marid’s magic that kept him from returning to the plane of water. He sent his minions ranging across the world in search of magical artefacts and secrets that might led to his liberation. This search eventually led Ceris into a ferocious clash with Grotnmandyr, the legendary cloud titan and an old consort of Kavura, no less. Their conflict was so violent that its shockwaves led to the devastation of much of northern Kordania, and many of the cultures that lived there.   Ceris was gravely wounded after his battle with Grotnmandyr and he retreated into the deepest parts of the northern oceans to recover. His hold over the surface world was broken and he descended into myth, remembered only in the tales of superstitious northern sailors. Still, Ceris has not been idle over the millennia he has spent healing. He is still a power beyond the scope of mortal comprehension, and numerous underwater cults and cultures venerate him as the Tide King, and these servants still roam the world, searching for ways to speed his recovery to full strength. If, or when, that happens, the world shall witness a reckoning.

Appearance.

Statues and icons to the Tide King can be found among the ruins of ancient seafaring civilisations and aquatic cultures. He is shown as a colossal leviathan with a vaguely humanoid torso and arms. Instead of legs he has a trio of writhing, finned tales and his head is reminiscent of a monstrous, horned turtle, fanged maw open wide in fury.
Symbol
A spiraling, finned sea serpent   A whirlpool of water falling into a gaping maw.
