Varin, the King of the Gods

Paragon of the Aether

Varin is known as the God of Radiant Order and is the leader of the Celestine Pantheon.
He is considered the god of the sun, law, and the Aether.
First of the divine powers, servant of the Drakanii, and champion of the Divine Matron herself. Many stories speak of the master of light and paragon of order, devoting his life to the celestial planes of the Aether. Ruling from atop his heavenly throne, Varin stands above all other deities, serving the will of their draconic masters directly and ensuring that divine law remains true across all realms.

Appearance

Varin is known to be an angelic being, his wings woven from the light of the sun and mana combined, each feather said to hold an equal power to a single mortal champion. His hair glows in a similar fashion as well as his eyes, anyone gazing directly at them blinded in an instant. Ever at his side, he carries his luminous blade, forged from silver and gold with a core of light, greatly enhancing its holy might.
His attire ranges from a radiant robe of the heavens to his shimmering armor, pieces of which may sometimes don his robe. He's always made out to appear regal in his image, commonly appearing in a high elven shape, same with any of his avatars. Other depictions simply make him out to be the sun itself or a beacon of light too bright for anyone to gaze upon without harm.

Personality

Varin is above all else a paragon and guardian of order and law. His solemn vow is to dedicate his very existence to upholding the laws of divinity, from the very laws of nature, the cycle of life and death, and even the smallest unspoken arrangements between individuals. Any rule set in place is one he seeks to guard, punishing those who stray from the path of lawfulness without mercy.
This mentality leads many to perceive him as a cold and calculated being, knowing only service to his masters with no regard to those beneath him. While such is true in regards to his charge, stories speak of his ascension, a noble soul seeking to safeguard the world tree through order and justice. As such, while his duty may force him to strike down good as well as evil, he does so only to bring peace and structure to a world that might otherwise crumble into chaos.
Towards those who too seek order in the world, he's known to offer his blessings of empowerment in their times of need. But such isn't limited to only the defenders of justice as his gifts may reach the selfish and wicked in their quests to uphold the laws that aid in their schemes. Varin wishes not to take any sides, serving only the balance of morals as he continues to strive towards a world bound by the structure enforced by himself and his fellow deities.

Abilities

Varin is said to be one of the most skilled combatants among the deities, his swordsmanship among the very best. While others are known to be his superior in martial combat, his divine powers are said to far exceed anyone beneath him, allowing him to maintain his throne as king of the gods. With his sword bearing a core of pure light, he's known to be a beacon of radiant judgment, his foes burning brightly with the fury of the heavens in a single swing.
Similarly, his magic scorches all in its wake, leaving them blind to his swift attacks. His radiance can also aid his allies and mend their wounds, able to raise entire armies without effort. But his sense of law and order has also granted him divine powers over death itself, able to strike down those who choose to defy the will of the gods in an instant. This power of law can even be used to force others into submission, especially those who disregard order in favor of chaos.

Worship

Varin is highly regarded across much of the material plane, either raised up as a prime deity in high elven culture or maintaining great respect by those who look towards the Draconic Lords. His favor is seen the most within the walls of larger settlements where law and order's well maintained. But just as many defenders of justice turn to him for inspiration, there are those who uphold the law with little regard for the people around them, order the most pivotal for anyone considered his true followers.
Those who pledge themselves to Varin have a single goal above all others: Uphold the law. If ever his followers were to stray from this path, they're cast out of their orders and know only disgrace in the eyes of their master. This makes them incredibly strict with zero tolerance for crime, their daily lives often full of small rituals that must be followed to the letter. Unfortunately, due to their dedication to the law, anyone able to twist it masterfully can avoid their righteous fury until they can attempt to see it re-written. Some like to travel the world and ensure that order's maintained wherever they go, swiftly dispatching those who fail to do so.

• Rhea - Said to be the first champion of Rhea herself, Varin remains eternally devoted to her vision and acts accordingly to ensure the World Tree prospers in her vision.
• Lyon - Varin's devotion to law and order is one of many reasons Lyon is considered the supreme deity of Gailardia, for whom else would a divine king kneel before.
• Ylora - Outside of his inner circle of disciples, the most trusted ally of Varin is Ylora due to her zeal and faith in the light and the discipline required to maintain law and order.

Oppositions

• Zhaarn - Of the vile deities which yet maintain their power, Varin holds particular distaste for Zhaarn and works tirelessly to ensure the dark god remains shackled.
• Saligia - Saligia stands in direct opposition to Varin, a fact which he is often reminded of due to her frequent attempts to disrupt the peace of the Upper Planes.
• Mateus - As the very champion of Gailardia, the most important endeavor in the eyes of Varin is to forever fight back the Void and prevent the coming of Mateus.
