Azra'Kah Settlement in Gaia | World Anvil

Azra'Kah

Azra'Kah is a desert city built atop a mesa known as Dragon's Stand. It is adorned by towering stone towers and a large golden palace that oversees the city around it. One of the two nations that are isolated from the chaos around it on the continent of Myrryth this serves as the capital of the desert band of wanders known as "Azrakans" Which are a people of shared history in the North eastern part of the desert, and along the River of Life.   The city has an interesting history, to some. It was once led by a sultan, a human whom saw money and power as everything they wanted, and of course had no remorse to show it. The man was incredibly selfish, and his subjects hated him.   It was then, karma that struck the man, when a gold Dragon, known as Medari, laid claim to the citadel. The fighting was breif. The dragon was much too much for the Sultan and his loyal forces to take.

Demographics

Most of the population lays within the middle aged and young folk. Merchants make up the higer class of the city, atop from the Tower of the Stars, which leads a shadow organization under the Dragon's ever watchful eyes.

Government

Former Absolute Monarchy. Illuminated Autocracy.

Infrastructure

The Market is a free and open market, with little authority to command how business is conducted. The City maybe considered an "Illuminated Autocracy" but it can also be seen as a de-facto Mercantile Republic. The Free market only bans the sales of slaves however business other than slavery is unregulated, and often a hot spot for black Market.   Due to the high merchant traffic, the city is very wealthy, and its citzens have wealth, save for the lower class, whom roam the city as beggars and roamers Under the Court of Tears, a criminal underground that seeks to undermine the wealthy.

Guilds and Factions

The city hosts the former Oligarchy beliefs of an overseer for each of the city's fields of development. These are known as the High Courts, which are decided upon internal elections.   The Court of Tears is a criminal underground from the days of the Sultan. They seek to undermine the wealthy, and ultimately The Dragon.   The tower of the Stars is a science league that acts as a large university that studies astronomy. Along with their knowledge of the celestial realm, science has found its way in making the city deceptively advanced than it looks.

History

The City was founded by a guild of merchants in the year 567 AS. It started off as a trading post, that then grew into a sanctuary and jewel of the desert. Being within visual range of the enigmatic  Shimmering Citadel, the place attracted scholars seeking to crack the secrets of the structure.   The Sultan came after the city had established itself. The Son of a wealthy merchant took complete control over the city and began to make it his own playground. This of course did not set well with the folks, but since there were loose laws, nothing could be done, until several sultans later. Several generations of brutal dictatorship and wealthy laws were met with Karma, when a Gold Dragon appeared from the South, and claimed the city as its roost.   It turns out the dragon, known as Medari, was a wounded dragon who had used the city to heal up with. Having lost a hind leg to some accident, or conflict. Despite this, the female dragon swiftly and quickly defeated the loyalist armies, due to thier combat inexperiance, and later, the dragon then crowned herself, Sultaness, in spite of the humans.   Decades later, the dragon grew attached to the city and its people, and later took it as a serious thing, where she nursed and nurtured the city to where it is now. Becoming revered in the process, enough to finnaly call it home.
