Rey Aramar
A Communard and painter of the Social Realist school of late Gaia-18. Today, Aramar is best remembered for leaking information to what would become the Vesperian government, regarding whereabouts and movements of the Communards; a betrayal that supposedly led to their destruction.
Aramar would remain in Vesper for seven more years, but he never painted again. He then emigrated to the Sea of Hope, where it is said he resumed his work, though no artifacts have emerged onto the international scene. Aramar died in '11, less than four years after his self-imposed exile, at the age of thirty-eight. As is common with any foreign death in the Sea of Hope, rumors persisted for years of Queen Nephrisar supposedly arranging his murder, but of course there is no evidence of this.
Aramar's most famous painting, Angel of Flame, was almost lost three times: first in a rabid anti-art riot in late Gaia-18, then again during the "Cultural Abbatoir" of early Gaia 19, when many artistic artifacts of the prior era were destroyed by state agents. The third near-loss came decades later, in '48, when a thief broke into the Museum of Historical Art. Evidence was located of an attempted theft of Angel of Flame, but security evidently arrived too quickly for the criminal to make off with it. No other paintings were taken. This, more than anything, is likely responsible for the painting's modern celebrity.
