Marina Minimelli
A famous sculptor who rose to prominence during the late '20s, Marina Minimelli was long regarded as an outsider who questioned conventional artistic norms. Later in her career she became a painter as well, though her paintings were considered far more conventional.
Nowadays, Minimelli is best remembered for designing the Tempus Fujiato Memorial Amphetheater (contracted in '48, finished in '51), and the enormous, "monstrous" statuary that descend from the ceiling: a host of hundreds of hideous devils that appear to be swooping down to attack anyone facing the stage.
