Bone Sushay
Named for a slow, meandering style of dance deeply rooted in Pre-Bloomial traditions (from the Old-Sotovarese "tsun," meaning "dance"), the Bone Sushay is an unofficialy annual tradition among teenagers and young adults, taking place in the early Spring of each year. It is a sojourn of sorts, where hundreds or even thousands of youths descend on the impoverished neighborhood of Arda Majora, then travel on foot to the west, along the half-destroyed, half-forgotten Skeleton Road railway, the lone remnant of the Pangean Railroad, which supposedly once connected all of Gaia Protarkas. Participants travel, usually in small groups of friends, western along the Skeleton Road all the way to the 2nd Importal, where they set up dozens of unlicensed and highly illegal parties, music festivals, drug-fueled orgies, and occasional crime sprees.
The tradition supposedly began in '21, ending in a small music festival allegeldy featuring folk singer Olga Pine. Pine was quite famous already at this point, however, and quite old, so this seems unlikely. Credit for starting the tradition is often given to a man called Marko Bones. By turns called a musician, a wizard, and a petty criminal, Bones is largely agreed to be an invention of local folklore.
The event did not become annual until the Frugal Forties, presumably as a means of entertainment for the thousands of disenfranchised, penniless youths on the southside. The crowds grew larger each year, as did the festivals and various other events, and police presence grew along with them. In the Fifties, as money slowly began to trickle back into the southside, many have argued the event has become too commercialized, with rumors that the '55 Bone Tsushay might feature licensed, sponsored events, "the death of the Skeleton Road."
