Guilds

A Guild is an organisation that when found in villages, which regulate and controls commodity trade with cities and towns. What is meant by regulation is, for example with apples, that the apples are not bruised and are of good quality for trade if they are not they will be consumed by the villagers or marketed to the brewing and distillery industries. To be made into cider or Apple Whiskey.   Control means that they will decide how many or how much of a commodity they will trade so they can get money balance against being able to survive the winter.   The Guilds work like a storage place, which is near the centre of the village so that it can be protected from wild animals that might take advantage of such stocks that are all in one place.   The guilds are often built with a wooden frame structure, with brick for walls the floors are often wooden planks or in the case of places that are not forested with wood trees, will have dirt floors but will construct platforms to keep items above the dirt.   When bricks cannot be used as they can not buy them or make them themselves they take them from older ruins from the Roman period, or if they are in more mountainous they will turn a side of the rock face into a quarry to make stone blocks. In much rarer cases they may find a stone ruin and literally move the building block by block and move the building to its new location. Where it will then be refurbished and be used as a storehouse.   For the purposes of building in Wiltshire Stone is often traded from Pembrokeshire which is where the stones to construct stone henge, which can be found on Salisbury Plain.
