Treaty of Red Snow

Signed in Ink to Spare the Blood

The signing of the Treaty of Red Snow would mark the end of the Eastern invasion of Whitehelm. It was at the behest of Athera, that the parties involved came to Cal-Athera to negotiate peace. For what had started as a small regional conflict had quickly escelated when Pelliny had marched to the aid of their Colony of Bleda.

The Treaty of Red Snow would accomplish several notable goals, the first being the establishment of Bleda as an independent state. This new Protectorate of Bleda would no longer be a colony of Pelliny, and would be wholely independent of Athera. This would remove the threat to Eastern influence in the region, while limiting their ability to expand northward. The Second goal accomplished by this treaty was setting a northern border to the Eastern. Prior to the signing of this treaty the Eastern had no northern borders and saw Whitehelm as unclaimed lands of Wolfmen barbarians ready for the conquoring. This would change with the creation of the Protectorate of Bleda, which would serve as joint nation of the Vvulfjr and Bledan people. Although an imperfect comprimise to the Vvulfjr, they trusted the men of Bleda far more than the men of the Eastern and were willing to agree to these terms for the time. The third major goal accomplished by the Treaty of Red Snow was the formal end to hostilities between the Eastern and Vvulfjr, by limiting the Eastern's ability to expand northward. With the war ended and regular trade resuming these terms proved profitable for all parties.

Now in legal terms Bleda was an independent state, however in all practial terms it still served as an extension of Atheran and Pellinin athority. As Bleda was still heavily dependent upon their founding nation for supplies and resources, as well as a strong cultural affinity for the Kingdom of Pelliny.

Purpose

The Treaty of Red Snow was written and drafted to bring an end to the war between Pelliny and the Eastern over the territory of Whitehelm. Drafted by the Atherans the treaty would establish Bleda as a state independent of Pelliny, and one which would not be encroached on by the Eastern. This was done to prevent the disruption of trade between the Eastern and Athera while securing the territorial ambitions of Bleda without threat to the Eastern.

Document Structure

Publication Status

There are three copies of this document that were drafted at the initial signing, with all parties signing each. One is held in the great archives of Cal-Athera, another in Bleda, and the third within the Capital of the Eastern. These documents are not readily accessable by the public but ranking memebers of the archives or courts may review them at their discretion.

Legal status

The Treaty of Red Snow is enforced by mutal athority of the three signators nations. Where breach of the treaty would elicit a response from the other signators. Should the territory of the Eastern or Bleda be infringed on they would have recourse to retaliate without fear of involvement of the other signators. Additionally should Bleda's independence from Pelliny be infringed on it would give the Eastern cause to move into the southern territories of Whitehelm.

Historical Details

Legacy

The Treaty of Red Snow has led to a lasting peace between the Protectorate of Bleda and the Eastern, as both parties recognize the threat of what would happen should this peace be breached. The primary benifit however has been to the Vvulfjr, who for the first time in their history find no more human threat to their territory. The small principality that is Bleda shares the land with the Vvulfjr, and live largely peacefully among them. There is however some skirmishing between the outland tribes and Bleda, but it is the most secure and peaceful period the Vvulfjr have ever known. Additionally the already strong trade relationship between Athera and the Eastern has been strengthend by this period of prolonged peace.
