Star Bane

Origins

Star grew up on the Hyemal Coast at the court of the Unseelie. Her mother, Iris Sunbright, was captured by Archfey Ryllon Arabar, the Witchlord of the Veil, and made to serve as a Thrall in his court, The Court of the Veil.

The Unseelie Lords rule over a vast icy range on the Hyemal Coast. Star was born there and sworn to serve the all-powerful Ryllon.

However, Star always yearned for her freedom and warmer climes. She took the opportunity of a visit from a Bugbear merchant to sneak into a wagon and leave the frozen North for good.

Star continued to journey through Frencal to the furthest confines of the continent in a bid to escape her patron.

Backstory

Star arrived in Valdor, the capital of the Frencal Empire, four years ago, and was soon to take employment in one of the most powerful aristocratic families of the Court.

The Dukes of Maurel are relations of the Emperor and Duchess Mireille de Maurel was keen to have Star as part of her retinue. Star's fine features and striking powers have proved to be useful to the Duchess, and Star has welcomed the protection the De Maurels have given her.

Star followed the Duchess to the town of Castellac where the De Maurels possess a beautiful mansion and domain on the shores of Lac MignonParc Divin.

There, Star helps the Duchess advance the schemes of De Maurels within the Fencal Empire and is instrumental in dealing with the families' enemies. On the other hand, the fairy is keen to avoid drawing her patron's attention and has come closer to Morilupe, the Dark Plume whom she serves well. Hopefully, the Dark Plume will help her to keep the Unseelie Lord at bay.

Powers and Personality

Star enjoys the warm climes of Southern Frencal and will do anything not to return to the freezing mountains of her youth. Star's freedom is what is most important to her - she would go to great lengths to get away from the clutches of Ryllon.

However, up to now, Star has drawn her powers from the Unseelie, powers she learned to control in her youth. With the Duchess de Maurel as a guide, Star has started to serve Morilupe and her powers are now seeping into her being. Star is like a sponge for the arcane.

Story Leads

  • Star's patron, the Witchlord of the Veil, has sent a group of Unseelie elves to retrieve Star from the Maurel's household. Will Star be able to avoid the threats to her freedom?

  • - Star is being betrayed by the Duke de Maurel. Unbeknown to the Duchess, the Duke has promised Star's services to an influential rival. This rival is a hidden fiend who goes by the name of Lord Balinor. Will Star be able to get herself out of this predicament? or will she have to go to the Hells first?

    - Star's new patron, Morilupe, wants the fairy to prove herself to her. Star is given a few delicate missions to prove her faith in the Goddess of Death.

    Spookoctober Cue 3: Helpless

For Spookoctober this year, I decided to create 27 characters for my DnD world of Frencal.

They all have something in common: they all are servants in some form or another of the Janus-like God of Death: Marwoleath and his twin sister Morilupe.

All are deadly, cursed and black of heart and mind.
