Lokerris

Origins

Lokerris belongs to a secretive race in Frencal, the Djevels (Tieflings). The Djevels hail from the high plateaux of The Blancmonts Range. However, many Djevel families have settled down along the River Vaillant in the Frencalian southern lowlands.

These Djevel families originally owned inns along the Way of the Hand - a sacred pilgrimage road for the Djevel people. Lokerris' parents were such inn owners.

Mirabo and Grina held the Handy Battelier in Lamont: an important harbour town on the River Vaillant. Lamont is in a strategic position, being at the borders of three kingdoms: Rivage, Camarrie and Valdoran. Mirabo and Grina were religious Djevels and revered the ancestral god of their people: Mephistopheles.

Backstory

Lokerris was fated to follow a different path than his parents'. From a very early age, he was fascinated by the entertainers who performed from time to time in the Handy Battelier Inn and decided when he was a teenager to become an actor.

His parents were very much against the idea of course: Lokerris was the eldest of the three children and in line to inherit the inn and follow in his parents' footsteps. Aged, 15, Lokerris bartered his way into a troupe of travelling actors who had stopped and performed at the inn and left with them to pursue his acting dreams.

However, Lokerris soon found out that his romanticised views of acting life were ill-founded. He was not too bad an actor and especially excelled in tragic roles, but life in a travelling troupe was hard and lacked the comforts he had been used to when he lived at his parents' inn.

When he turned 26, Lokerris decided to stop travelling and changed his profession. As a Djevel, he had inherited some arcane ability and it was not long before his special skills attracted the attention of a mercenary band in Castellac. Lokerris' troupe usually wintered in the pleasure town as actors were often welcomed in the forever pleasant and warm climate of the lakeshore city.

There, he met with the Black Adders, one of the many mercenary bands offering personal protection to the aristocracy holidaying in the town. The Black Adders all worshipped Marwoleath, the god of death and in turn, Lokerris found an affection for the god.

Powers and Personality

Aged 45, Lokerris is still keen to perform and often imbues his jobs with his flair for tragedy. His colleagues in the Black Adders tolerate his eccentric and dramatic behaviour in so far as it does not impede the jobs they are charged with by their employers.

As he grew into his role, Lokerris is often the 'face' of the outfit - being able to mix well within the genteel world of Castellac. As an actor, he has a certain reputation among the polite circles of the town. Story Leads

Marwoleath

Hiding in the shadow, a knife no one sees, a tragedy waiting to happen ... Listen to my servant's dark and beautiful words, as he embraces your last breath.

Story Leads

  • Lokerris would be a complex, possibly devious, morally grey character, that player characters would encounter on a stage or at a high society party.

  • - As a member of the Black Adders, Lokerris might uncover a number of intrigues, secrets and threats to some of the most influential and powerful noblemen of the Empire.

    - Lokerris could be set up as a fall guy by an influential member of the aristocracy or even get sucked into a plot against the Emperor or his family.

    Spookoctober Cue 6: Despair

For Spookoctober this year, I decided to create 27 characters for my DnD world of Frencal.

They all have something in common: they all are servants in some form or another of the Janus-like God of Death: Marwoleath and his twin sister Morilupe.

All are deadly, cursed and black of heart and mind.
