Georg Wilhelm Hainzl
During hard times, some prefer to embrace the grim reality around them. Others choose to ignore the difficult reality. Georg Hainzl, baron of Hainzl lands in the northwest, is one of the latter. A generous and gregarious man, Georg Hainzl refuses to accept Eisen’s decrepitude and instead calls others to recognize the country for what it could be: a place of wild beauty and grand adventures. Some like his charming view of Eisen; most believe him simply delusional.
Georg Hainzl’s rule is based on mining the forbidding Dracheneisen Mountains. The historic mountains were the source of dracheneisen, the country’s famous iron forged into terrific weapons and armor. Though the veins of dracheneisen have long since gone dry, the mountains also possess rich deposits of silver, ore and gems which flow right into Hainzl’s coffers. Georg has used that money to spruce up his part of the Nation. While the invading armies marched west into Wirsche or east into Sieger, Hainzl remained relatively untouched in the mountains, and stockpiled wealth and welcomed refugees.
Many believe Hainzl’s focus on beauty comes from the tragedies in his life. It is no secret Georg lost his family in the War. Most believe his lost love Kurt, a musician killed by Horrors while traveling to a festival in Freiburg, drove Hainzl to his isolation. Left alone to rule with no loved ones around him, advisors whisper, Hainzl could not handle the stress of Eisen as it is now.
Instead, Hainzl buries himself in music and beauty, all in tribute to his lost Kurt and the family he struggles to honor. Only Hainzl’s Iron Guard and the Drachenblut, headquartered in the mountains, keep the monsters lurking in Eisen from swallowing the königreich whole. The other Eisenfürsten, especially Elsa Pösen, caution Hainzl to be wary, but Georg can hardly be bothered. Too busy spending his money on lavish parties, town beautifications and concerts, he fails to notice the dangers around him.
