Falk Traugott Fischler

Falk Fischler represents a cautionary tale of the mistakes of youth. This fifty-two year old Eisenfürst started from humble beginnings, the second son of a struggling merchant, and ended up marrying a poor Ussuran traveler. Despite their lack of money, Falk lived happily with his wife Olga.   When War came to their town, both Falk’s father and brother, Dieter, went to fight while Falk stayed behind due to failing health. He never imagined their bravery would earn them a barony. Though Dieter died, the Fischler family received a title and land carved from Sieger and Hainzl territory. When Falk’s father died soon after, Falk inherited the title.   Falk was overwhelmed by the duties of an Eisenfürst. In one of his first decisions, he moved his family to a newly purchased villa in the mountains, something befitting a new baron. Yet, tragedy struck as Horrors attacked. Falk survived with his young daughter, Ketheryna, but the Horrors slaughtered Olga.   Fischler, intent on presenting Ketheryna with every opportunity to make up for their former poverty, wanted to build her a barony she could be proud of. Obsessed with keeping her safe, Falk seized on the opportunity to send her to foster in the court of Ussura, where she grew to catch the eye of the Czar. Excited by the prospect of his daughter becoming a queen one day, he accepted the marriage proposal without asking her permission. The decision drove a wedge between them, and the two have not spoken since.   Separated from his beloved daughter, Falk watches his königreich struggle. The fishing industry falls to near ruin, as each haul out of the Südsee grows leaner and more sickly. The nobles have divided up power among them and maneuver themselves with impunity, disrespecting his rule. Far away in Ussura, Ketheryna is now a contender to become the new Czarina—a fact that would overjoy her father if she would just speak to him.   And worse, even his own Iron Guard seems to have turned against him, taking bribes to protect the nobility over the commoners. Only the Drachenblut, a new organization out to protect Eisen, seems intent on helping defend his territory from their place in the mountains to the west. Their stirring call to the old days of Eisen pride and power is the only thing wresting the melancholy baron to action, inspiring him to heroic deeds for the first time in his life.
